Title: Heaney misspelled as Henne in church records?
Post by: Pollsara on Monday 14 March 16 17:04 GMT (UK)
Is it possible that the surname Heaney was misspelled as Henne in church records. Perhaps the registrar spelled it phonetically.  (i remember my folks using this Pronunciation. but I always assumed they meant Heaney)
I  don't associate the name Henne with Ireland at all. I'd appreciate any insight. Thanks.

Yes, many spellings, written how it sounded. There again accents didn't help.
I was told.....Mothereeny, no it was   Modreeney!

I agree with Maggie.
There were many ways to spell words - not just people's names.
I have seen the same name in the same will spelt differently!
I don't know about what date you are looking at, but the further you go back, the more creative you have to be when searching for people's names!  :)
Good luck!
