Good evening. I am new to this family history search and am just dabbling at the moment .Your service has been highly recommended to me.
I had a great uncle named James Mckie who apparently was a bit of a character who I would like to know more about.
All I know at the moment about him is he was born 24/06/1882 (I think), his mothers name was ellen mccoy, he had a brother called Thomas,he lived in keighley and bingley,was a public works labourer in 1939 and lived at 12 borough lodging house and died around 1955 and joined the army in 1914.Hope you can help but if not no problem.

Can't see him with his mother in 1911.
I think he's in Sheffield as James McCoy, railway navvy.
His birth is registered as McCoy in 1882.

Enlisted 28 Sept 1914 based at home. Discharged 20 Jan 1916. Sustained injury to hand whilst intoxicated, not on duty, and declared no longer fit for duty.
Aged 31 and 3mths on enlistment. Occupation labourer. Height 5'8, 160lbs, complexion fresh, eyes grey, hair dark brown, he had a squint and recorded as character was indifferent. In trouble a few times for being drunk and disorderly.
Next of kin mother Ellen McCoy, 3 Crown Street, Keighly. James gave same address.
