Title: Palestine Police.
Post by: susanne44 on Wednesday 09 March 16 19:57 GMT (UK)
I am researching my uncle, Albert Cecil Hunt (1920-1995) who was in the Palestine Police until 1948. I would appreciate any help with this. I have the travel record of his return but that is all.

Thanks, Sue.

What did he do in WW2?

I wonder if he had been in the Middle East during WW2 and the few  years or months following. and then was Seconded to the Palestine Police directly from British Army?

Thank you for your prompt reply. It is quite possible that he was in the Middle East prior to being in the police, as you suggest. I just don't know. He had no children so there is little information within the family. Sue.

I suggest that you search here on rootschat for any other threads about the Palestine Police.  I am sure that there are other threads on the topic.

There were "troubles"  in that area  just after WW2.  there was terrorist violence against British Forces, I believe?

Palestinian Police records were held by the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum in Bristol. But due to the farcical closure and disposal of their holdings it is anyone's guess where parts of their collection ended up.

St Anthony's College (Oxford) now hold large amounts of material regarding the Palestinian Police, and they maybe worth contacting

Have you seen this?

Thank you all,

I am making progress. My uncle was transferred to the Royal Army Veterinary Corps in 1939. By 1942 he was in the Middle East, so as has been suggested, he stayed on in the Palestine Police. I will contact the Oxford archive and the Old Comrades Association. No, I had not seen a record of the sale of his medal.
Thanks again, Sue.
