Could anyone help with information on Phillip Butler born in Ireland about 1806. I think the family was from the Kilkenny area. I Know he was a stone mason who moved to live in England and married Elizabeth Durkin in Middlesex.
Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thank you

Are you sure his Wife was a Elizabeth?
1841 Census
Philip Butler, 35, Mason, born Ireland
Catherine Butler, 35
Philip Butler, 13
Marilda Butler, 10
John Butler, 8
Elizabeth Butler, 2
Unfortunately as he married pre Spt 1837 there will be no M/C which has his Fathers name/occp.
Trish :)
Edit;
I did notice 1851 he says he is born England;
Philip Butler, 51, Stone Mason, born England
Catherine Butler, 47
Elizth Butler, 11

I Know he was a stone mason who moved to live in England and married Elizabeth Durkin in Middlesex.
Philip Butler, bachelor, married Catherine Derkin, spinster, at St Giles in the Fields, Middlesex on 19 January 1820.
Both "of this parish". Witnesses: Wm Taylor (a frequent witness); D. Bugden (or Sugden?).

I thought the 1841 census gave Phillip B's place of birth as Ireland? That's the one in Somerstown isn't it, with children Phillip, Matilda John and Elizabeth...?
-
Trish1120 you are correct, sorry it is Catherine Durkin he married.
His son was also a stone mason and some of his children were born in England.
He also worked in Wales building the bridge over to Anglesey

Hi TrelfallYorky.
He did have children named John and Elizabeth.
-
Hi salsalass,
Yes 1841 did have Phillip born Ireland but 1851 hopefully is more accurate for his place of birth.
Also born c 1800 is more likely as if born c 1806 as per 1841 Census he would have only been 14 at Marriage 820!
Did they emigrate?
I cant find them in 1861 Census.
Also you say some Children were born Ireland
They married 1820 so did they go back to Ireland and then back to England?
1841 Census all Children are down as born England.

Ok looked at a couple of Trees;
1861 MICHAEL Butler born c 1824 St Pancras, Middlesex is in Bangor, Caenarvonshire, Wales with his Family.
1851 he is there also with new Wife and Parents in Law the Hughes.

Thank you,
I now have all the census records from 1841.
My brick wall seems to be finding Phillips parents in Ireland.
I have managed to search from when they came to live in England and then moved to Wales to work on the Menai bridge over to Anglesey. They lived in Bangor North Wales from then on.
Your help is much appreciated
Thank you again

Hi Trish1120
We are unsure if they went back to Ireland and then came back to England. It shows Micheal as being born in Ireland about 1826, that is why we are unsure.
-
1851/1861 Michael is born St Pancras.

Thank you to everyone for your help.
These census records are so confusing. Is place of birth a mistake often made on census records?
Yes they did live in Middlesex when they first came over to England. Phillip worked for Thomas Telford and was chosen to work on the Menai bridge. This is why they ended up settling in Bangor North Wales.
Looks like the Irish records seem to be the problem as I can only find a Philip married to an Catherine Homes.
Once again thank you all for your help very much appreciated
