Hi..
I am confused re my 4th G Grandfather THOMAS BOWEN 1782 - 1861 Born in Bromyard, Herefordshire. I have found a marriage to SARAH DERRY 1778 - on 13th June 1814. This same Sarah is documented on the census for 1841 as Thomas Bowen's wife.
However, in the 1851 census, Sarah's birth year is given as 1818 :) There is a 10 month old infant listed on this census.
I assume that Sarah DERRY passed away between the census years and Thomas remarried. I have found a marriage for Thomas and SARAH BAKER 12th Feb 1850.
My problem is that I cannot find a death for Sarah DERRY! ???
Thank you in anticipation!! ;D

you may have that can be the trouble have another look at it see what you think :)

Hi,
In case you haven't found her yet, I think this is Sarah in 1851, transcribed at Ancestry as BAWIEC ::)
1851 HO107/1980 f.374 p.18 Linton
Bowins Corner
Sarah BOWIN Head Widow 74 Carptr Widow Herefor Linton

Still confused... ???
I note that Thomas married Sarah DERRY in 1814: however I believe that this may have his second marriage as I have 4 daughters whose births are registered from 1805 to 1809 respectively...
CHARLOTTE 1805 - 1810
SARAH 1806 -
MARY ANNE 1808 -
SUSANNAH 1809 -
CHARLOTTE 1811 - 1872
The later 4 children are registered from 1816 to 1824 :P
Can you see why I'm thinking that this may be from a second marriage...unless the 4 older children were born out of wedlock.. :-\
-
I wonder which Sarah this child belongs to?
Thomas BOWEN
Baptism Date: 17 Feb 1814
Bromyard
Father: Thomas BOWEN
Mother: Sarah
It could be the first Sarah's, then she died and he had a quick marriage on 14th June 1814 to Sarah DERRY? or Thomas was only marries to one Sarah in an earlier marriage yet to be found :-\
If this the 1814 marriage that you refer to, are you sure that he is 'your' Thomas?
13 Jun 1814
Tarrington Herefordshire
Thomas BOWEN
Sarah DERRY
I ask because on the 1851 census I can see this different couple,
1851 HO107/1982 f.13 p.18 Wigmore Herefordshire
Wigmore Village
BOWEN
Thomas Head 59 Farmer 266 acres employing 1? Lab Shropshire Ludlow
Sarah Wife 59 Herefordshire Stock Lacy
John Son 38 Farmer's son " " Wigmore
Sarah Dau 23 Farmer's Daur " " " "
Ann Dau 20 " " " " " " " "
Susan BLUCK Serv 26 House Serv Shropshire Bishops Castle
James WILLIAMS Serv 20 Farm Lab Herefordshire Aymestrey?
Stoke Lacy is only about 9 miles from Tarrington, and Linton is only about 13 miles away, so which couple belongs to this marriage :-\
-
Hi...
Yes this is the marriage that I refer to in Tarrington in 1814. I still have not found another marriage for Thomas. ??? So I will have a peek at this other family. Everyone on Ancestry seems to follow the same line, however, I have been caught out like that before!!! ::)

I have looked at this family as you suggested :)
However, as Charlotte BOWEN 1811 - 1872 (my 3rd G Grandmother) married JOHN HILL in 1832 in Bedwardine, I am not convinced that the Wigmore Village family are 'my' Bowen's... :P

Sorry for the confusion :-[
I wasn't suggesting that the Wigmore Village family were 'yours', just that the marriage in Tarrington might be for the Wigmore couple rather than 'your' Thomas and Sarah.
As 'your' Thomas and Sarah are having children from 1805 through to 1824 I'm wondering if 'your' Thomas was only married to one Sarah before 1805 and that the 1814 marriage belongs to the other Thomas and Sarah that are not 'yours' living in Wignore.
As 'your' Sarah was from Linton I wonder if they married there? I can't find the Linton parish marriages online so I wonder if contacting these people might be worth a try as they seem to have the parish records for Linton.

Hi Daisy,
I have found a marriage that MAY fit the bill..
Marriage in St Clement, Worcester on 10th April 1803 between a Thomas Bowen and Sarah Ball.
This could be them, but haven't found anything else to back it up as yet!!! ??? eg I can only find 2 children so far from this marriage with no Charlotte in sight... :-[
Fingers crossed!!!! ;)
