Welcome to RootsChat.
The badge is of The Women's Royal Army Corps.

The badge on the tunic is the Royal Signals

Hi tomscot,
I can see why you would think it is the Royal Signals. The badges are very similar, but Jebber is correct.

The WRAC formed in 1949 from the former ATS, so the photo must date from '49 on.

The date is definitely before the king died as the crown on the Royal Corps of Signals cap badge is the kings crown. The badge changed slightly when QE II came to the throne.

Not sure why the REME badge is featured but Tomscot is also correct. Wearing the Royal Signals badge on the left breast signified the wearer was serving with a Royal Signals unit. The WRAC ceased to exist when female personnel were fully integrated round about 1990 or slightly later.

The Royal Signals cap badge changed to that design in 1946. The tunic and hat are of the late 40's early 50's pattern. The King's Crown badge was replaced by the Q/C in 1955 although k/c badges would have been in use for some years after.
The WRAC was formed in 1949 with the cap badge introduced that year. You can estimate a date the photo between 1949-55.
