James and his wife (?) Ryan are supposed to have immigrated mid 1850s and settled at Spring Creek (Puebla), Victoria. I found this online reference file:///C:/Users/MM/Downloads/Post_Contact_Heritage_Assessment.pdf (http://file:///C:/Users/MM/Downloads/Post_Contact_Heritage_Assessment.pdf) to a James Gleeson with a 301 acre farm.
This is possibly James' death record (mother's name was Kirby)
GLEESON
Given names James
Event Death
Father's name Michael
Mother's maiden name Alice (Kuby)
Reg. year1876
Reg. no1394
The 1876 death would appear to refer to a James Gleeson of Echuca, Victoria
DEATH. (Trove - Riverine Herald)
GLEESON.—On the 31st of December, 1875, at the
Town Hall Hotel, High-street, Echuca, James
Gleeson, formerly of County Limerick, Ireland,
in the 39th year of his age.
However, there are a number of other Gleesons buried in Echuca Cemetery and it would seem that James' wife was called Bridget.
Can anyone find anything further on James of Spring Creek?
thanks

There is a marriage for James GLEESON to Bridget RYAN in 1859 in Victoria (reg 1686).
Then another for James GLEESON to Julia RYAN in 1862 in Victoria (reg 1517)!
Notably this was NOT the same James (unless he was a clever bigamist) as there were children born to each of these women at the same time and in different areas.
James and Bridget were in Echuca (so seems likely the one whose death you posted) and had 4 children:
James 1866
Ellen 1868
Margaret 1870
Mary 1873
Echuca is not that close to Spring Creek (now Graytown), especially in those days.
James & Julia were in Majorca/Timor/Maryborough/Chinamans Flat - even further away.
There are two further marriages for James GLEESONs born in Tipperary so perhaps a common name in the area: one to Johanna O'DONNELL in 1868 (reg 1617) and to Mary Anne DONOVEN in 1869 (reg 570). Plus two more in the 1880s...
Hopefully I have managed to post without breaking any rules or offending anyone :)
EDIT: The infant William GLEESON buried at Echuca 1886 was the son of Margaret GLEESON, father unnamed, so could be James' grandson. Ellen d. 1888 was daughter of Patrick & Mary.

Firstly these are the details from my resource for James GLEESON death mentioned in your post, bearing in mind that information on death certs is only as accurate as the knowledge of the informant.

There may be more than Spring Creek town/locality in Victoria however as mentioned there was a Spring Creek which was the former name of Graytown. The link on your post doesn't function. Try this one

I would be surprised if James was actually born at Geelong c1834. Perhaps he was simply from Geelong or married at Geelong.
His 1859 marriage certificate which you can purchase online [AUD24] and immediately download would help you as his parents including his mother's maiden name would be noted along with his age and place of birth.

I suspect this second marriage was not at all successful. ::)
By 1887 KEWLEY had acquired the license of the Town Hall Hotel and was behaving badly and abusing his wife.

And to top of Thomas KEWLEY's unacceptable behaviour, in 1888 he sold the contents of the hotel at auction....well he advertised his intention. Surely the contents were owned by Bridget.

Aside from all the information found about James GLEESON including the death registration with the correct parents albeit his mother's maiden name mistranscribed, his marriage certificate would validate the research.

Wonder what the poor daughter did to be "turned out" ::)

Thanks everyone for your help and all the links which I am going through.
I bought the 1859 marriage cert last week and it confirms that it was indeed the James Gleeson of Co. Limerick that I was looking for. Bridget was the daughter of Thomas (not John as recorded on death record) & Margaret.
On Family Search, I found 2 baptisms in St. Mary's, Geelong (same church where James & Bridget were married) and a marriage in 1888 in Wagga Wagga whose parents were James G & Bridget Ryan. I have not located these births on the BMD records.
http://tinyurl.com/zvojr4z (http://tinyurl.com/zvojr4z)
So to sum up the info at hand: James arrived in Victoria prior to 1857 and acquired land in Puebla. He married Bridget Ryan in 1859 in Geelong and had possibly the following children:=
Johanna - baptism 1859
Catherine - baptism 1863
James 1866
Ellen 1868
Margaret 1870
Patrick 1870
Mrs Leola (Bridget Kewley died at the home of her daughter).
Michael Thomas John who married in Wagga Wagga 1888. ?? Michael had the Prince of Wales Hotel in Wagga Wagga and later his son John Dudley was kiled
(Bridget had 3 daughters & 1 son living at the time of her death in 1918)
Having left farming c1863, James became a publican & hotel owner and moved north to Echuca where he died in 1876.
Bridget remarried Kewley in 1882 and had difficult times with her new husband!
I haven't found any relevant death records in Victoria with parents James Gleeson & Bridget Ryan but Michael Thomas John's death record below is showing Michael for father. Could this be an error?

Not at all unusual for Catholics to fail to register their chn's births. I understand that many considered baptism was sufficient. Possibly some errors with mistranscriptions from parish records to Familysearch or the quarterly returns to the Melbourne BDM Registry. Prior to marriage though.

You appear to have copied and pasted a death from the NSW online death index. May I gently remind that on rootschat we are not permitted to copy and paste from online indexes including those on Ancestry.com, but are required to transcribe the information. It is often the format that is copyright not the information.
I would suggest that James GLEESON's death certificate would have reliable information about issue, both living and deceased, from his marriage with Bridget.
