Post by: moosewoman on Friday 26 February 16 14:54 GMT (UK)
I am researching a family member who lived in Tar Houses. Does anyone have any information on where these were - anything really!!
Thanks

hi moosewoman.

In this article http://www.pwllmag.co.uk/spdf/spdf8.pdf it is mentioned that Llanelli was was known as Llanelly (First paragraph, Col.1 Page 3) and there was/is tar factories in that area, could they have built houses for their workers. Just a long shot i know but might be worth looking at.

Also don't Know if this site might be of any help http://brynmawr.gwentheritage.org.uk/content/people/coal-tar-houses

regards

Hi
Thanks for this - the first link is to a Carmarthen site which isn't correct I am afraid. The second is a really interesting picture of Clydach Vale (where Llanelly was/is) and purports to show the tar houses. However, there isn't any other info with it. If there is any more information on these it would be fantastic!
Thanks again
 :)

There are a couple of references to the Tar houses (often the Coal Tar Houses) in newspapers , which suggest they were near the railway and the Clydach Brook
