Title: Sponsors at an Irish Baptism?
Post by: coughlinja on Thursday 25 February 16 18:21 GMT (UK)
Are the Sponsors at an Irish Baptism our equivalent of godparents? I've just hit a bit of a wall, and I'm wondering if the Sponsor has the same last name as the father or the mother are they likely to be siblings. This might give me more names to search.

Sponsor is generally used by the RC church. The Church of Ireland would call them godparents. It’s the same thing.
