Hi, Can anyone help please?
I'm hoping that someone will be able to help with information please - Evan Rees and Mary Thomas are my 3x great grandparents and they were married on 15Th May 1825 at Llangoedmor, Cardiganshire.
I am trying to find out if Evan Rees was a widower when he married Mary Thomas as on the 1851 census in the household with Evan aged 58yrs and Mary aged 49yrs, there is a son John Rees who is 36yrs (this would make Mary about 13yrs of age when he was born!).
Hence my query as to Evan Rees being a widower at the time of his marriage to Mary Thomas.
Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

Hi
You would need to have a look at the entry in the parish register and hope the information was recorded, marital status isn't always mentioned pre-1837.

That date was the Banns not the wedding,he was fron Bedwelty Monmouth it says so mayve a look at 41 census there

Plus a couple more?

EDIT In 1841 Nantyglo Iron Works, 1851 Smokey Ranks both Aberystruth, Abergavenny Evan & John both Puddlers

Hi again, have been looking further, so could I ask how do you know for certain he married Mary Thomas in 1825 Cardiganshire, was Elizabeth aged 16 in 1851 your ancestor?
As if adhering to Cardiganshire marriages in c 1825 there is also a marriage to a Mary Jones in Llangynllo?

Thank you all for your information and comments :)
The date for the marriage of Evan Rees and Mary Thomas was given to me by a family member, who is sadly no longer with us.
Elizabeth, the daughter of Evan and Mary was my 2x great grandmother, she married my 2x great grandfather Owen Parry on 30th December 1854 and it's their daughter Elizabeth Thomas Parry who was my great grandmother :D
So the search goes on.

;D Indeed the search goes on, 1825 to c 1835 a long time prior to birth of Elizabeth?

Yes Keyboard86,
There was quite a gap, though I believe there was an older daughter Mary (1841 census) born about 1826 in Monmouthshire and who knows, there may well have been children in between.
-
:) OK so now we start looking into detail, occupation of Evan when Elizabeth married Owen Parry 1854, and witnesses?
-
:D Owen and Elizabeth were married at the Bevan Independant Chapel in the district of Abergavenny (probably in Aberystruth as the was where they were living).
Evan's occupation was given as a pudler and the witnesses were Richard Lloyd and Ann Davis, who both made their marks.

Hi again, so it looks like 1841 Evan is our man, 1861 Mary Rees 58 Widow b Llangendeirne, Cardiganshire, with Owen/Elizabeth and family RG09/3997/79/64
Owen and family 1871 RG10/5316/106/43
Still a bit concerned re why Elizabeth the only apparent child of Evan/Mary from 1825 on 1841?

I really appreciate your help Keyboard86 :)
I think that the only way to pinpoint any more children for Evan and Mary, would be to spend some time trawling through the appropriate parish records at the relevant R.O. sometime in the future.

;D I still would like to know if the 1841 John Jones 25 occ Puddler Not born in County is the same as the John Rees 36 b Glamorganshire in 1851?
