HI ,
folks looking to track a Nicholas Whitty. Born in parish Rosbercon/tullagher/listerlin in 1860s. brother of Ellen Whitty Broe Rathmines/rathgar area and Edward whitty (bootmaker)new ross. Nicholas moved to dublin and may literally have followed in his brother Edward's footsteps and also worked as a bootmaker. May have married a Margaret Molloy. Have Traced Ellen and Edward - would love to track Nicky.

Thanks Heywood. That may be a possible ..

Who are the parents of your Whitty family?
-
Hi parents were Patrick whitty and Mary Curran..
-
The mother's maiden name isn't recorded but otherwise look good for your Nicholas and the family in the Census heywood found.
http://churchrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details/7c32210097879
In 1911 he says he was married 33 years, that plus this possible death in 1907
http://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/1da2e712929391
Would add up quite close for the marriage and age of death recorded for that death record matches fairly close for Catherine re the Census.
The mother's maiden name would have clinched it.

How about a sister Anne with right parents also has a Carroll as witness

-
And mother Curran, nice one, if he had a sister Anne.
-
There is a Mary Whitty with those parents baptised Glenmore, Kilkenny 1868.
I asked re parents because of the marriage already quoted of Nicholas Whitty and Catherine Carroll who look good in the censuses.
I can see where you have Margaret Molloy- she is a godparent with Nicholas Whitty to one of Ellen's children. You would need to search for a marriage there but the Whitty/Carroll marriage is looking good.

Glasnevin index shows the following burials
Nicholas Whitty age 31 in 1917 possibly the son
Nicholas Whitty age 72 in 1938
Catherine Whitty age 49 in 1907
http://www.glasnevintrust.ie/genealogy/results/index.xml
checked 1911 census for Dublin only one Henry Whitty around then so this might be a marriage for him
Henry Whitty to Margaret Campbell 2nd July 1912 Dublin South
http://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/57b48d6629391
there is a possibility that Margaret died in 1915 and Henry then married Alice Sheridan 13th May 1917 in Dublin South
http://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/details-civil/2335856515460
this couple can be followed up on the register of electors which also includes in family house hold a Nicholas Whitty possible son

I cross referenced this marriage with the civil records and i take it that its actually Ellen's marriage to James Browe/Broe not Anne ?

Correct Dath elem did marry James Broe . But the clongeen connection and other children have thrown things ..I always thought there was oh Nichols .Ellen and Edward my get grand father..I 'll have to check with my dad.so much info here . To triangulate is the key. Whitty very popular in wexford New Ross and Kilkenny area..fingers crossed . It will make sense. Not the first time I 've found an extended family so nothing ruled out

how did you search the NLI registers - for the above info ? surely not a manual trawl?

If you mean reply #13, RootsIreland has the information, but always better to see the original.
