Title: Dublin Metropolitan Police (DMP) - Thomas O'Brien ex King's County or Galway
Post by: obrient on Friday 19 February 16 20:00 GMT (UK)
Like many others, I'd hoped to visit the Garda archives, but they're still closed.

A great-grand uncle Thomas O'Brien (born circa 1862 either King's County or Galway) lists his occupation in 1901 census as "Dublin Metropolitan Police Constable" but in 1911 (King's County) lists his occupation as "Police Pensioner". That's all we know about his police history. (I know he became a warden in New Zealand subsequently)

Does anyone know whether it's possible to view his personnel record? I have emailed the Garda others mention (name escapes me right now) but while his service records (years of service) are of interest, I'm hoping to get richer personal information.

Does anyone have any tips/suggestions - patience is not one of my virtues!

Jim Herlihy's book has a Thomas O'Brien DMP 8775, born 1862 Rynagh, King's County.

Thank you!!!

That's him. Hopefully with his DMP number I'll be able to get something useful from the Garda archives when they re-open.

I really appreciate that and I'll try and return the favour some day  :)
