Title: Help with Certificate
Post by: BlueFire on Tuesday 16 February 16 02:27 GMT (UK)
Hi

I can read the certificate, but the vital information for John William Blom is hard to figure out. I'm not sure of his birth place and parent names. Specifically, the first name of the father and the maiden name of the mother.

Arick BLOM, sailor
Annie BLOM
Maiden Surname (only because I can read ‘Maiden’ and I know to expect ‘Surname’ but my video card in this puter is not the best) so the Maiden Surname is enclosed in brackets, but it could be similar to that of the second witness perhaps … although there seems to be two parts to Annie’s surname ….so perhaps these could be “Ad” an then “Jiblom”  …. Better still as the marriage cert is likely a a downloaded image from Victoria BDM, …. Please can you attach a snip (rather than insert) so we could download the snip and enlarge it even more for ourselves

Cheers,  JM

I have another post called Swedish rellies, that has snippets. I did not say what I thought the names might be, so I wouldn't taint anyone with my guesses. Its the maiden name in brackets and the word before Sweden that are giving me the most trouble. The maiden name, also does not look like the same hand writing, as the rest of the certificate. I suspect the "John William" is either english version, or a new name he took on, so he sounded more Australian. Its clear he signed the certificate himself as the writing looks to be from a different hand. The "storekeeper" also looks odd.

There is a place in Sweden called Grevie - could it be that with mis-spelling due to writing whet he's heard?  It is a small municipality on the south west coast not so far NW of Helsingborg.  Would that be right?

Sorry can't help with mother's M.N.

Wiggy  :)

I wonder if we can decide that the first 2 letters in October and birthplace are the same..... or not.

But there again I am on the thinking that the letter after O in birthplace is an "r".

Oresy or Orecy.

Hi,
I think the names are Joseph Williamson and Isabella Williamson not Williams.
Will have another look at the maiden name in a mo.

Thanks for your input so far. I'm steering away from A in the maiden name, as the "A's" in other examples of the hand writing, are easily identified. I'm not familiar with Swedish/Finnish names, but when I google names, Ostblom comes up a lot. The third letter does not look like a T in particular, but there could be spelling errors.

I do think her name is most probably Östblom. There is also a variation Österblom.
I have checked all the parishes that look like Orecy etc but no luck.
