This is a photo of my grandad, in a group of uniformed people.
I guess the date is around 1930-40. I don't know for sure.
Does anyone know what he was doing?
Many thanks, Lesanne. :D

Hi Mack,
Maidenhead, Berks. This is the most common place refering to Grandad. He was in Corby, as his place of residence when he married nan, in Maidenhead.
His parents were from Hammersmith, and his paternal link is Oxon. I'm still trying to find out if his dad, Robert, died in the ww1.
Yes, Craze is direct family. So far, from the Mile End Old Town.
Does this help? Lesanne. :)

Hi Mack,
Yep, that sure looks like rellies. I have Lewis/Louis b 1811 to Elizabeth. They had a son Louis and I think Tom, but I'm trying to sort them out. So it's quite possible that the names carried on.
There are 2 of us on here, JonathanW and myself, although Jon is a bit more distant. He is through William/Richard then marriage. Our's is Louis/Charlie/and so on down.
Jonathan and I linked up after a post in the London postings.
What can I do for you? Do you know what uniform my grandad is wearing?
Lesanne. :D
-
lesanne,he must be your relative, because you have confirmed what i found, there was a carrying on of the louis name and all came from mile end,but ime useless with civvie records, about your g/fathers uniform, ime not quite sure thats why i have been hesitating with an answer,i can only tell you what i THINK it might be,its similar to the fire and heavy rescue units during the war,you should find pictures on the net during the blitz, that should confirm it,annie is right about ambulance units, they were teams of men and women, who dug people out of their homes etc and gave 1st aid then carried them off to the ozzy,i have a picture of the lost memorial that has young thomas,s name on if you want a copy sending, mack
ps and a picture of the brewery

Hi Mack,
How interesting, that South Africa link is to us. We were there last Nov.
I took some photo's in a British cemetary, just in case.
Webster was the surname of the only pic that came out.
Yes please, to your offer of sending me your pictures.
Lesanne.

lesanne,pm me your e.mail address and i will send them for you, mack

Hi L,
The initials on grandpa's uniform seem to be "C.D." ---------- suggesting "Civil Defence". The apparently blue/black 'battledress' uniform continued to be worn by Civil Defence into the 1960's.

Hi Percy,
Thanks for the info.
Does it mean that CD uniform was worn all over the country?
Lesanne.

Hi Mack,
So far, I've managed to find a Thomas Louis Craze. date of birth 12/10/1856.
St Dunstan, Stepney. His parents Thomas and Elizabeth.
His Grandparents were Louis and Mary.
Does this make him to old ?? Should I look for another Tom Louis ??
??? Lesanne. ???
