Title: White Lodge, Walton on the Naze
Post by: merrymoo on Sunday 14 February 16 17:04 GMT (UK)
Hi, Happy Valentines day everyone! Can anyone tell me about White Lodge, Walton on the Naze in 1908. I am looking for the death between 1901 and 1911 of James Williams born "on board ship Bombay India" in 1856. His wife was Agnes Marion Williams nee Ormes, she is a widow in 1911. She was living in Barnet, but I can't find a death for James in Barnet. Does anyone think he could have been in a nursing home called White Lodge in Walton on the Naze. I have found a probate entry for James Williams and his widow Agnes Marion after his death 28 Feb 1908. Thanks very much for your help guys, as always.

Hi, they were living in Friern Barnet, Middlesex in 1901. The age isn't too far out, if he was born in 1856 (I only have him as an approx date) and died in 1908 he would have been about 52. The problem he was born on board ship and I can't find a birth for him yet.

Would be worth sending for the Will to see if it is him.

Good idea  :). Maybe if anyone knows what White Lodge was in 1911 they could let me know, not conclusive but if there was a Williams living there then I may be able to discount it.

Thanks again  :)

I can find no internet references to White Lodge in Walton on the Naze, there is however, a White Lodge Crescent in nearby Thorpe le Soken. Maybe it was here.

Hi -this history places White Lodge in East Terrace,Walton:

On the left of East Terrace is White Lodge, intended as a lodge for the newly developed area that was planned by Mr. Warner, but which eventually was used as a Bazaar and Reading Rooms.

Thanks for your help on this, nothing conclusive yet, I agree White Lodge looks nothing like a nursing home and I don't recognise any of the residents in 1901. Well onwards and upwards, if anyone has any ideas all gratefully accepted. Thanks again  :)
