Hi and welcome to Rootschat
Can you add a bit more info about him - birthyear/birthplace/wife's name/children's names
If he is the one b 1835 married to Jessie - exactly what type of info are you looking for?
-

Hi
The 1871 census shows his birthplace as Farr but he was living in Midlothian at that time

Alexander Mathieson 36 tailor b Farr Sutherland
Jessie 31 b Inverness
Alexander 8 b South Leith
Mary 3 b Edinburgh
Maxwell A 2 ditto
William 3 Months ditto
Edinburgh St Cuthberts ED 96 Page 4 Line 12
-
Still in Midlothian in 1881 - 8 Raeburn Place
Additional children Jessie 8 John 6 Dolina 3 - all b Edinburgh
They also have Jessie's mother living with them - Mary McDonald aged 76 b Inverness
St George ED 115 Page 4 Line 12

Still in Midlothian in 1891 - only one son John 17 living with them. Can't find either Alexander or Jessie in 1901 so you will need to look on Scotlands People for his death between 1891-1901
