Hello and welcome to Rootschat!
What sort of information are you looking for? You obviously have some dates and basic information. It's better if you can post all you know about Richard, and what it is you are looking for. That way people on here can focus their efforts.

Hi
As you know Richard Taylor is a very common name in Wimbish. What is the name of your relation with parents Richard Taylor and Sarah Parkis.
Tracing the History of my Cottage I have Richard Taylor buried in 1822 and Sarah his wife buried in 1838.

Whilst both Richard Taylor and Sarah PURKIS were 'of this parish' when they married in Wimbish 13 Oct.1801, I cannot see any baptism in Wimbish between 1771 and 1785. His age is given as 84 on his burial 11 Aug.1859 indicating a birth c1775 on the 1851 census he is only 71 (c1779). I notice that Sarah and the two sons with them in 1851 all give Stoke as PoB whilst Richard does give Wimbish. I suspect that Stoke probably refers to the parish of Stoke by Clare just over the county border in Suffolk, but there are other possibles.
The only Taylor families with baptisms in Wimbish during that period are a Henry/Harry and Ann and a Mark and Ann, so is he perhaps a son of either of those couples but not baptised or was he baptised in another parish with different parents. I have had a quick look at surrounding parishes, Thaxted, Radwinter, Great Sampford, Debden and Saffron Walden with no success, so he may have come from further afield. Interestingly a Richard and Mary Taylor had two sons baptised in Wimbish in 1785 and 1787, as I cannot see a marriage for this couple in Wimbish around that time, did they perhaps move into the parish prior to those baptisms and already had some children. It would be expected that if they had several sons one would be a Richard.

Just thought I'd mention that there was also a couple of other places which I've noted as having families with back and forth movements with the places mentioned, Thaxted, Radwinter, Great Sampford, Debden, Wimbish and Saffron Walden, they were Great and Little Easton.

The two sons who are with Richard and Sarah in 1851, James 48 widower, butcher and William age 45 if you follow them forward to 1871 they are still together in Wimbish giving place of birth as Stoke by Clare Suffolk.
Essex Record Office has the will of Richard Taylor, labourer of Wimbish who was buried 1 December 1822, probated 1823, and written 1 January 1814, it had no information that is not already known, no mention of children left everything including his copyhold cottage to his wife Sarah.
Is this the Richard, widower who married Sarah Wright 25 October 1802 at Wimbish?.

Hi
I have the will of Richard Taylor who died in 1822. His wife sold the Cottage to Thomas Wright for £19.19.00 in 1826.

Hi everyone who has replied to my initial query. Thank you so much. Here is what I have from my end ... Richard Taylor (1775-1859) m. Sarah Parkis. They had a son Charles Taylor (1823-1904) m. Mary Staines. They had a son James Taylor (1846-1920) m. Ellen Ridgewell. They had a son Charles Taylor (1874-1962) m. Ellen Edith Bennett. They had a son George Henry Taylor (1898-1976) m. Edith Peacock. George Henry Taylor was my grandfather. I have a photo of my great, great grandmother Ellen Ridgewell in her old age, standing outside her house, Rose Cottage, Wimbish, Essex.

The only baptism showing in Stoke by Clare is for William Taylor, 19th May, 1805. It says Sarah was nee Swallow.

There is a marriage in Saffron Walden between Richard Taylor and Mary Stock in 1780.

I descend from Richard Taylor born c1755 and Mary Stock. Their son Allen born in 1790 in Wimbish. Several of his children by his 2nd marriage in 1826 to Rebecca Coe seemed to vanish after 1841 without trace, and one after 1861.

Have you got a birth year/date for Mary Stock?

My great grandfather George Arthur Taylor was born in Middleham but was raised in Wimbish by his parents George Taylor (born in Wimbish 1852) & Emma Cornell (born in Wimbish 1851). George Sr.'s parents were thought to be James Taylor (born in Ugley 1818) & Elizabeth (Betsey) Taylor (born in Wimbish 1822)- likely cousins but haven't found the link. James Taylor's parents were (I think) Jacob Taylor (born in Wimbish 1789) & Ann Bassett (born in Wimbish 1790). Elizabeth Taylor's father was Allen Taylor. I could have sworn that I've seen some connection between by gg George and Rose Cottage somewhere??

Hi
I've only seen the will of Richard Taylor (d. 1822) leaving Rose Cottage to his wife Sarah, she later sold it to Thomas Wright in 1826. I'm not aware of a connection with George though.

Niggles
I live in the Cottage which Richard and Sarah Taylor lived in, there is no mention of it being called Rose Cottage. In the Richards Will it just mentions Copyhold Cottage and in the Wimbish Manorial records it is states Tenement at Tye Green at a yearly rent of 8 pence.

Could you attach or send me the picture of Ellen Ridgewell standing outside Rose Cottage.

Mary Stock was the daughter of Thomas Stock and Ann Shepherd, born 1762 in Saffron Walden. I think I found Thomas' baptism in Little Bardfield in 1719, son of Samuel and Ann Stock. A Sam and Ann Stock were having children in Saffron Walden from 1724 onwards.
I traced the Taylor line back to Samuel Taylor born c1723. His son Samuel Taylor wed Ann Stock in Wimbish (or Walden) in 1766.

I have attached the Marriage of Richard Taylor and Mary Stock in Saffron Walden.
I also have the will of Alan Taylor who died in 1830 if anybody is interested. Did this Alan have any children and what is the connection with the other Alan's?

Are you referring to Alan (or Allen), son of Richard and Mary b. 1791? I've got him a dying in 1877 aged 86 at the Union Workhouse, Saffron Walden. I'd be interested to see a copy of his will if it's the same one as I've obviously gone wrong somewhere! ???

I am not sure if the Allen who died in 1830 is connected to our Allen. Could be a name coincidence and same village. The one who died at Wimbish Hall in 1830 was born about 1745.
Richard Taylor was born in 1759 in Barkway, Herts. The Taylors seems to flit between Barkway and Saffron Walden as a 1773 poor law record mentions them. Samuel, wife Elizabeth, children Sarah, 18, Ann 14 and Richard.
Samuel Taylor wed Elizabeth Cooper in 1746 in Barkway.
Children was
Samuel born 1747, Barkway, m Ann Stock, 1766, Saffron Walden.
Sarah born 1755, Saffron Walden.
Ann born c1757.
Richard born 1759, Barkway, m Mary Stock, 1780, Saffron Walden.
John Taylor born 1764, Barkway, died 1764, Barkway.

Allen Taylor Esquire was born 1745 in ?????? married Elizabeth Walford in 1771 at Birdbrook, Essex. They lived in Wimbish Hall, he died in 1830 and Elizabeth died in 1833 age 83.
There is a plaque on the wall in Wimbish Church.
Sorry I have not got the will of the Allen Taylor who died in 1877.
I have the Wimbish Manorial Rolls mentioning Richard and Sarah Taylor who lived in our Copyhold cottage.

Coombs so you have the marriage record of Samuel Taylor & Ann Stock? I found Samuel's "settlement letter" dated 1820 which says he "50 years ago purchased the house of Ann Stock widow..." which is a bit confusing if this was the same Ann Stock he was married to who apparently lived until 1792. It goes on to say he had 5 children (Ann, Mary, John. James & William)
-
Hi
I will have to check my notes to be sure but I think the Ann Stock widow was the mother of Ann Stock Jnr who wed Samuel Taylor in 1766. Ann Shepherd married Thomas Stock in 1738 in Saffron Walden.

Hello . I’m descended from a Richard and Sarah Taylor. My great grandfather was James married to Ellen Ridgewell. Please connect with me . I’d love to know more.

I think that perhaps George Henry Taylor would be my great uncle, my great uncle, brother to James Taylor. 1846-1920.
