Title: COX Family Appledore
Post by: burrey on Thursday 04 February 16 17:41 GMT (UK)
Hi,
Would anyone have any information about the Cox families from Appledore , Devon.
I am looking for one in particular who was the coxswain on HMS Victory under Lord Nelson who called him "warrior" Cox & gave him a silver watch, I would like to know his christian name but do not know where to look.
I think it may be Joseph Cox or his son Nathaniel Cox who was born in 1776 & married Jane Evans in 1802.
Any help would be most welcome.
Thank you in advance.
John.

Have you looked at the Trafalgar Ancestors website run by the National Archives?

A search on Ancestry has come up with the following information.
Nathanial Cox born 23/5/1776 at Barnstaple Devon. Married Catherine Micheau  8/9/1802
Northam Devon, died Appeldore Devon  30/1/1812. There was also a reference to him being
part of the crew of the Revenue cutter Harpy. Hope this helps.
