Hi
I have hit a brick wall and running out of options! I am looking for my 3x great Grandfather William Campbell born abt 1827 Glasgow. His wife was Margaret Steel. I have found the Census 1851,1861, 1871 & 1891 but cannot find the family in 1881 ?? ??? Can anyone help me please? many thanks. I also do not have a death cert. for William. Margaret died in 1894 and I know they were still living at 342 Rutherglen Road,Huchesontown, Glasgow.

Hi, think I found the 1881 census entry.
1881 census
Cubie St 6, Camlachie, Glasgow, Lanark
William Campbell age:47 born 1834 Glasgow
Margt Campbell age:49 born: Farsley, Renfrew
Margt Campbell age:25 born: Glasgow daughter
*remember depending on who gave the information it can be wrong.
1901 census
23 South Row Summerslee, Coatsbridge, Old Monkland
William Campbell age:72 born:1829 Glasgow
* living with William Campbell age:44 and wife Helen age:39
** could this be your William?? If so, SP has 7 William Campbells in deaths between 1901-1911 in Lanark
don't know if you have this info but will send it anyway........
Marriage:
William Campbell & Margaret Steel married 7 October 1849 in Glasgow
Births of children:
William 3 August 1850 Barony
Mary 22 January 1852 Barony
John (one match on scotlands people)
Margaret 23 November 1855 Bridgeton
James 1 November 1858 Bridgeton
If going by Scottish naming patterns found these;
Birth of William Campbell:
11 Jan 1823 Barony John Campbell/ Euphan Yuill
21 Oct 1823 Old Monkland John Campbell/Helen Ingles
24 April 1824 Lanark John Campbell/Ann McKenzie
3 Sept 1825 Barony John Campbell/Margaret Turriff
Birth of Margaret Steel:
23 July 1821 Paisley James Steel/Jane Bicket
30 Sept 1830 Lochwinnoch James Steele/ Mary Campbell
Hope something helps, Kim

Hi Blemdookie
Thank you! yes I think the 1881 is the one I have just found too and cubie street is very close so it looks promising. Also yes I have William & Margarets marriage and the children's d.o.b
The 1901 census im not too sure about; as I have William marrying Mary Ferguson in september 1875 glasgow and they had a son James born about 1878 and I dont have a death cert for him or his father yet. James married Matilda Mckeown and their son William born 1905 was my grandad.
Thank you skoosh, im just looking at it now
