Title: Searching for a marriage - FHL number?
Post by: zace66 on Wednesday 03 February 16 13:58 GMT (UK)
Hi there, I am trying to trace back Thomas Green and Ellen Tildsley, married in Deane, Bolton, Lancashire on 17 Dec 1851
Ancestry brought up a single link to FHL Film Number:   2113073
But that seems to bring up loads of links and none of them linked to the marriage certificate.

My usual recourse is to order a copy of the marriage certificate to go further back but I dont have an mre details, other than Ellen's father was Abraham.

Any advice appreciated very much.
Cheers
   Chris

If you have access to Ancestry.co.uk you can see the actual marriage entry from the church - Manchester, England Marriages and Banns, 1754-1930.  As all the parties signed the register, you will get original signatures as well.  ;D

Great thanks for all that - yes i found the actual page.  Amazing.

Can anyone give me some advice please.
One of the witnesses was a James Platt.  I want to see if i can work out who he was.  The reason being is that Thomas and Ellen went on to have a son called James Platt Green, so I am assuming he was very close to them.

TIA

Sounds more like James and Ellen had a son called James Platt Green doesn't it but I'm sure that wasn't the case!

I would have a look at the 1851 census to see if he pops up in the same area as bride and groom, they would be single in 1851 and James might have been living with one of them.
