As I don't have access to USA/CANADA records I will value help to trace WILLIAM Shiach MITCHELL 1895.
He left UK for USA IN 1927 on the pretext of looking for a residence for his British family, wife and 2 young children.
NEW YORK PASSENGER LIST:
Wm Shiach Mitchell
ARRIVAL DATE: 29 Mar 1927
BIRTH DATE: 1896
BIRTH LOCATION: Scotland
BIRTH LOCATION OTHER: elgin
AGE: 31

PORT OF DEPARTURE: Liverpool, England
PORT OF ARRIVAL: New York, New York

His wife Ruby re-married IN 1953 and told the story that William had been killed in a car crash. This might have been a fiction as there are several other distortions/fibs that were told about the paternity of one child.
At Ruby's re-marriage, she might not have declared that she had been previously married to William Shiach MITCHELL or proved that she was widowed.
QUESTION ONE: Was William Shiach Mitchell really dead?

According to the passenger ship record his final destination was Oxnard, California to meet his Uncle Fred C. Duckman and it was to be a permanent move.
He's on line 2 of the page image). Be sure to click to the next page to see the 2nd part off the entry.

He stated he was first married at age 24.
He was a lodger, I believe at 421 West 57th Street.

William and Ruby lived in Exeter, Devon until about 1950 then moved away with Angus. Not sure about his brother Raymond.
