Does anyone know if it is possible to adjust this image to make it any clearer? My mate who does a does some work with photos, hasn't been able to do anything with this. It ends up all grainy or what does exist of the person, disappears.
To my knowledge it is the only image that exists of this young girl. No-one seems to know who has the original newspaper article that this was copied from.
I don't hold out much hope.
Thanks in advance.

MrsWheelie,
What paper was the photo in? and about what year?

Hello Yonks,
About 1930. But that is a guess. I have no idea which paper. I have only ever seen the photocopy of the photo. The story is that she was visiting family down near Brisbane. So probably a Brisbane paper. As far as we know her name was not linked to the photo. I have searched Trove and so far not found it. I was told she was 'snapped' at an outing and was titled something like 'Visitors enjoy the outing'. I have searched for the phrase but not found anything yet.
I have seen stories reported about family in newspapers from other states as well as other areas within the state, so my assumption that it was in a Brisbane paper, is just that, an assumption. I suppose the same company might have owned several papers and that is why local stories are found in all sorts of places.
Her name is Florence Davey. But! She was never referred to as Florence. She was 'Bloss' or 'Bub'. I only found her name out a few years ago, when I was sent a photo of a list of names written in a bible. I had up to that time wondered if her name was a flower of some sort - hence the Bloss - maybe short for blossom. So far nothing like this photo has appeared under a search of any of these names.
There is a lot of heresay relating to this image. As she is an extended family member, I have not followed it up. I have been tidying up my ancestry and came across it again. It was sent to me with some other bits and pieces, but the lady who sent it to me has passed.
I thought I would post it to see if it could be improved. But I think it is too far gone.

I think she would have been about 12 years old.

MrsWheelie,
Are you close to a city library?
cheers
Yonks

Not a capital city library.
What records are you thinking I could search?
-
I had a go and failed

Thanks japeflakes. It is a very degraded image. There is too much shading and not enough detail. I think the original newspaper article must have been in poor condition to begin with.

MrsWheelie,
I know [ W.Australia ] Perth Battye Library has a lot of papers that your able to copy.

Thanks Yonks,
This is a Queensland person. I don't think it would be in a West Australian paper. But I just don't know. I will keep looking and if I come across an original that will be good. If not, that's they way things are sometimes.

If you supply the young girls name perhaps a search might bring a better image for you...someone may have this clipping or a photo of her in their family tree on Ancestry.

Age would be abt 98 now..but would still be under privacy act if the lady was still living.

It's only more recent photos that are a problem Yonks.

no here in Australia we have very strong privacy laws.

A photo taken over 86 years ago of a 12 year old girl wouldn't be a problem posted on here...the posters are encouraged to name their photos...No date and place have birth have been given.

Hasn't the photo already been posted? :)

You can search Australian newspaper archives online for free!

Good luck!

Thanks everyone for the feedback.
I have searched on Trove, Ancestry, IGI, Google, National Archives, pretty much anywhere I could think of.
Yonks is Perth Battye Library similar to Trove? I wasn’t meaning that there wouldn’t / couldn’t be a reference found of Florence in the WA source. So Battye library has copies of newspapers from all over Australia as well. I will keep that in mind. Are they online or do you have to go to the library?
Treetotal – her name is Florence Davey. She was probably born about 1918. That is a best guess. I have searched using her name, nick name, and variations. However, it is believed that the title or text with the photo ( I don’t have the text) was something like 'Visitors enjoy the outing'. I have searched for variations of this text – no luck. I don’t know if she is alive. I don’t know if she married. Details about her are very sketchy. Since her siblings were born in Queensland, I believe she was also born in Queensland.
Florence is one of life’s mysteries. I will put her on the backburner for now.

Mrs Wheelie,
No Battye is [ our State and Genealogy ] at Perth's Library, http://slwa.wa.gov.au/
you can search on that site although you may not be able to view all that they have to offer as I have a State card, you can get a State Card for your own State Library, just google your State Library.
I have just done a search and couldn't find your lady in any Brisbane papers, maybe if you get in touch with the Library in Bisbane they may be able to help you on this.
Sorry can't help
Cheers

Thanks Yonks,
Without knowing exactly what text went with the photo, it would probably mean going through every paper covering a number of years. Right now, I think I can spend my time on more meaningful research.
