I tried to 'reply' to a post and ask a question but when I hit 'reply' I was taken to a very long list of potential topics and could not see how to ask this specific person a question. Are there any circumstances where there is no message box? How unfortunate that my very first experience of trying to communicate was so complicated!

Hi Sharon,
Welcome to RootsChat :)
The blue "Reply" button that you pressed to reply to an old topic is the correct button to press to reply to any of the topics on RootsChat. There are some topics that have a little padlock these you are unable to reply as they are "locked" butcan be unlocked if you contact a moderator.
The blue reply buttons appear at the top and bottom of every topic, and to start a new topic there is the blue "New Topic" button.
If you can advise which topic you are wishing to reply to I can check this out for you.
Regards
Sarah

I think you have to have received messages before you can "reply" to any. At least that is for a"personal messages (PM)

That is only personal messages, you can reply to a post on a thread with your first attempt/post if you so wish.
