Any help in dating this photo of a Hussey family picnic in South Australia (probably Port Elliot).
Many thanks

That's what I thought!! Unfortunately I only know who 3 of the people are in this photo, so I'm hoping a date will help me identify her and others. Thank you for your help :D

What do you think the "structure" is for?
-
At a guess the structure is a windbreak. My father was a planter in Argentina and grew trees in front of his orange fields to reduce wind damage. This structure would have roughly the same effect.

I am sure you have seen this Ben but I will post it for others.

Seems likely that one of the women in this picture is the above named Jessie. ( we can rule out the pregnant one)
Born in Goolwa, South Australia, on 5 June 1862, died in Port Elliot, South Australia, on 16 March 1899.
Initially recruited by Mueller to collect marine algae in the Encounter Bay area of South Australia in 1893, she sent large numbers of both algae and terrestrial vascular plants to him, and algae to Agardh and other overseas phycologists. On her death, about 2000 of her specimens were deposited in the South Australian Museum, and these are (since 1957) in AD.
A very worth person of note :)

That's our Jessie. :) She very well could be in this photo though I'm not sure which person. She went deaf and died quite young, but was an extremely intelligent and passionate woman who pursued scientific study at a time when she was discouraged to do so "lest it distract from her filial duties and happiness". She's quite the inspiration. I'll attach a photo of her in case anyone else can recognize her. :D

If Jim has dated this picture in the 1890's then Jessie would have been in her 30's.
I wonder if she is the lady on the extreme left? I think the eyebrows look similar to your very beautiful head shot of her.
added - and the jawline and eye shape
-
My guess from the shape of the eyebrows would be second left...what a beautiful lady.

I gave her a clean...I hope you don't mind.

Thank you so much Carol!! Second from left was the person I was putting my money on too! Due to Cheeks and cheekbones. :D

Because that structure is built with a pitched roof formation, I wonder if it might be a framework for a 'greenhouse/shelter' which could be covered in Summer and left uncovered in Winter.

I think the young girl at the end does too, her dress hangs as if covering a bump .
