Title: HASLER family from Switzerland
Post by: giselap on Friday 08 January 16 03:57 GMT (UK)
The HASLER family (two brothers and their old parents) must have emigrated in the middle of the 1970is from Switzerland to NZ (Auckland?).

The parents must have been around 60+ years old at that time.
Unfortunately I don't know anything more about them, except that they had seven children, the remaining five of them stayed in Switzerland. Plus I do have the names of one of the brothers who emigrated and his descendants (all alive in 2011), which I could pm.

I know this is very little to start with. :(

Any help with this family research would be more than welcome!!!

Thanks in advance,
Giselap

Hello Giselap

If you go to this site https://www.archway.archives.govt.nz/ and search for Hasler you will see a list of Swiss people by this name who emigrated 1950s-1970s. Hopefully these names fit your search.

They also appear later possibly arriving with another Swiss family by the name of Gahwiler.

You may find deaths here: https://www.bdmonline.dia.govt.nz/

Good luck :-)

P.S. If the mother was Lina HASLER nee FORSTER b. c1908, she died in 2000 aged 92 (as FORSTER)!

Hi,

If the parents have died could you post their names?

Cheers Janette

Well, Janette, this is exactly my biggest problem, I don't have the parents names, just those of their descendants in NZ and Switzerland plus I know the town where the Hasler family lived before emigration. :(

A possibility, perhaps??............

Anna Maria HASLER, died 1994, aged 86.
Max Eugen HASLER, died 1988, aged 86.
Peter HASLER, died 1997, aged 59.

All buried Central Division High Rise Section, North Shore Memorial Park. Section 1, Block D, Row A, Plot 70 for Anna & Peter. Max, Plot 71.

If on the correct track, I can provide further information including newspaper death notices.

I shall watch this space............ :)

Hello.

I see there are not many White Pages listings for this surname. Therefore there may be a connection.

A farming family by this surname, was resident in the Waikato in the early 1950's.

Because the living could be involved, some info has been PMéd from school records and cemetery records.

First of all thanks for all the help I received from each and everyone of you so promptly. :)

- to Janette

will pm the names I got asap.

- to minniehaha

that just must be the right track as among the known HASLER siblings is a Peter, who must have died before March 2011 and whom I have always assumed to be the second brother who emigrated to NZ, the other brother's name should be Ruedi married to Maria FÄSSLER.
Any additional info you have on this HASLER family would ne highly appreciated.

- to KHP

thanks for the additional info on Max Eugen's parents. This just must be the right family.

- to Alan

thanks for the info on the HASLERs from Waikato. Not sure yet whether or how they are connected to Max Eugen's family. But will keep these HASLERs in mind as I always wondered what exactly made them chose NZ out of all possible destinations for emigration.

Thanks so much to all again for your generous help!  :-*

Non of these 3 appear on any electoral rolls up to 1981 which may point to arriving after enrollment for the 1981 elections closed or maybe they weren't eligible to vote at that stage.

Hello HistoryBuffalo,

Welcome to Rootschat.. :)

It is nearly 9 years since the original poster was active on this forum. However they may still receive an email alerting them to your message.

I was one of those involved in the research into the Hasler family but have not kept any notes.

Can I ask where the name of Michael B* has come from? as I cannot find it in the above thread.

*Is this person still living? If so, you will need to delete his name from your post.

He was reportedly friends with Peter Hasler and Eva Hasler and was living with them.

Peter Hasler died and then he married Eva Hasler.

At some point unknown, he took Peter Hasler's name to become [edit by Spades 12/08/25: name removed - now identified as still living, see Reply#44 below]

Hi Minniehaha

Just wanted to issue an alert.  :)

YES, the person for whom information is being sought by HistoryBuffalo > listed here as "M...... B " and alternatively as "M....... H" (one and the same), >  is still living, although is now resident in another country.

Are you able please to assist HistoryBuffalo (via a Moderator) to remove references to this living person from
Reply # 39 [ last line "How .... " ]
Reply # 42  ... where surnames are stated.

    Cheers   ~ Lu
