Hello!
Looking for more info on a William Simpson. In his sons obit from Ireland William is listed as deceased as of 1921 (his sons death) and from huntly aberdeenshire.
I have looked up census records etc and had some help on this site as well but I am unable to find this family in Scotland for sure. Several possibles but unable to say for sure.
So! Hoping his grave may have more information! The family is Presbyterian and it looks like the old huntly cemetary would be a good place to start looking! Problem being I don't have his death date. I know he was alive as of his sons marriage in 1876 and deceased by 1921 his sons death.....working on narrowing this date range down.
Thanks for any help!! Torrie

For the avoidance of a lot of duplication of work already done, this is the previous thread on the same person http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=458850
There are Aberdeenshire MIs at http://www.anesfhs.org.uk/databank/miindex/miindex.php but so far they don't seem to have done Huntly.
I also see from http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=392293.msg5705313#msg5705313 that James Simpson died on 28 August 1921 aged 70. If his age is correct, this gives a birth year of 1850/51. The 1911 Census says he was 54, giving a birth year of 1856/7, and the 1901 says 49, giving a birth year of 1851/52.
If I were you I would look on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for the death of Ann(e) Beattie or Simpson. This will tell you whether or not she was a widow, and where she died. Use this and the information in the other thread to narrow your search and find the death certificate of her husband.
Once you have the date of death, there is a small chance that William might have left a will, which might contain information which would confirm the relationship.

Thank you for attaching links. :)
I see a marriage for William Simpson and Ann Beattie for nov 16 1848 in kennethmont scotland. I know one of the census records listed an Anne as a possible mother for one on the families...where did you find the last name Beattie?
i then looked in the 1851 census and a not find a good match for this couple....who I still don't have any proof are my ancestors...little lost with your suggestion.
As far as using Williams spouse to narrow his date of death...the best census record possibility is the 1871 William Simpson cattle dealer with children listed but no wife. There is a good chance James mother died before his father if this record is his family.
Thanks as always, Torrie

This is the census record I have narrowed it down to the best option but again not for certain.
1871 census
William Simpson head age 56 Cattle Dealer brn Forgue, Aberdeenshire
John Simpson son age 12 brn Rhynie, Aberdeenshire
Isabella Lindsay servant age 39 housekeeper brn Auchindoir, Aberdeenshire
Living at Old Tullochbeg Bar, Huntly, Aberdeenshire
Reg Num 202, ED10, Line 9
1861 census
William Simpson head age 46 Toll Keeper, brn Forgue , Aberdeenshire
William Simpson son age 22 brn Kinneathner, Aberdeenshire
James Simpson son age 9 brn Kinneathner, Aberdeenshire
Ann Simpson daugh age 6 brn Kinneathner , Aberdeenshire
John Simpson son age 3 brn Rhynie, Aberdeenshire
Isabella Lyndsay servant age 35 Domestic Servant brn Auchindoir, Aberdeenshire
They were living at Tollhouse, Auchairn, Cairnie, Aberdeenshire
Reg Num 178, ED3, Household schedule 35, Line 14
I think kinneather=Kennethmont and there is a christening record for a James Simpson August 22 1851....however no mother name is listed!!
-
Also found Anne's christening but again no mother listed....
John simpson born in rhynie scotland though is born marsh 7 1858 to William Simpson and Ann Beattie.
No concret record for Ann beatties death...should be between 1858. (Last child born) and 1861 where she does not appear on census.

According to Findmypast William Simpson is described as 'Married' not 'Widowed' in 1861 although Ann is not in the household. Scotlandspeople have a death for an Ann Simpson or Beattie in 1865 in Aberdeenshire which might be worth checking. If you have the right family in 1861/1871 then the wife of the William listed on it was almost certainly Ann Beattie ( evidence the birth of John Simpson born 1858 in Rhynie to William Simpson and Ann nee Beattie which can be found on Familysearch).

Hello!
After a through process of elimination going through the census records etc. I have finally come to the conclusion that the William Simpson and Anne Beattie are indeed the correct family! Very exciting! Thank you again for all of your help.
IsobelW-you mentioned you found a death for Ann Beattie in 1865 on Scotlandspeople...yet when I search for it, nothing comes up...Just wondering if you searched with the primary surname of simpson or beattie...not sure why its not working for me...
My Next problem is finding William Simpsons first wife as his son William Simpson in the 1851/1861 census is 12/22yrs old and there is no way Ann is his mother as she was only 22 in the 1851 census when William was 12.
I did find a promising 1841 census record ...
wm simpson 25
Margaret Simpson 35
William simpson 3
Elisabeth Milner 60
in Leslie Aberdeenshire
not yet found a corresponding marriage record for a William and Margaret prior to Williams birth in 1839. and not certain this is the correct family in 1841 either... :(
Thank you again all for your help Torrie :)

Found also a Birth record for William Simpson 1839...Father William Simpson Mother Margaret Milne...this matches the 1841 census I posted above...now just nee to find death records!!!
-
I put in both names - Ann Beattie other name Simpson. It brings up a number of entries for this name combination but there is one in Aberdeen in 1865 where the person is given as born 1831 which seemed a possibility for your one.
