Looking for parents or information of any kind on Thomas Tipper and Elizabeth Bromley. They are the parents of my ggg grandfather Robert Tipper. Robert Tipper was born around 1840 in Radford. He had at least one brother, Frederick Tipper born about 1843 also in Radford. I have a copy of Frederick's birth certificate that lists parents as Thomas Tipper and Elizabeth Bromley. This is as far back as I can trace.
What I do have is Robert Tipper married Salina or Salena (maiden name unknown). Salina was from Smethwick. In 1861 census Robert and Salina living in North Harborne, Staffordshire. They came to United States around 1863.
Can anyone help with either Tipper or Bromley relatives?

Looks a little early for the ages on the 1841 census, even though ages on that census for adults are not exact - rounded up or down to the nearest 5.

Where ages are rounded in 1841 they are rounded down, so Elizabeth would be age 35-39 in 1841.
There is a baptism for Elizabeth Bramley at Nottingham St Mary 24/06/1804 to John and Juliet, which looks quite likely.

Though the instructions for writing the age on the 1841 census is always down
Column 4 Age and Sex
The instructions read: For persons aged 15 years and upwards it is sufficient to state within what period of five years their age is, writing down the lowest number of that period: thus for persons aged 15 and under 20, write 15 - for 20 and under 25, write 20 ... but the exact age may be stated if the person prefers it. For persons under 15, write in the number of years; for infants under one year the number of months.
Experience teaches me this is a very moveable feast and Thomas may prove to be somewhat older than his potential upper limit of 39 on the 1841 census, particularly for instance if he was 40 in the year of the census, but after the census was taken, or he miscalculated his age by a year. That is why I gave the leeway of up or down within the 5 year band, as always presuming down can be misleading.

Yes I agree census ages on any census need to be approached with an open mind. Was just pointing out that the "form" was to round down rather than up - I've been caught out too many times to presume anything ;D

So, let me see if I have this correct:
John Bramley and Juliet (Julia) Bouchere married 03/09/1798
Children:
Sarah 09/09/1799
Richard 25/11/1800
Charlotte 11/09/1802
+Elizabeth 24/6/1804
Ann 16/10/1806
Harriet 16/12/1813
Walter 21/01/1811
Harriet 01/11/1815 (first Harriet died?)
Elizabeth Bramley married Thomas Tipper 31/12/1822 Saint Mary, Nottingham. Thomas Tipper not from Nottingham? Thomas Tipper occupation: Lace Maker, Cordwainer
Children:
Sarah
Jane
Elizabeth 20/01/1828 Christening in Radford
Maria
Thomas 16/09/1832 died 02/12/1832
Julia 26/01/1834 Christening in Lenton
Edward
Thomas 17/01/1836 Christening in Lenton
+Robert 26/08/1839 Christening
Frederick 28/08/1843
Mary Ann 12/10/1846
Please check what I have. Any way of finding parents of Thomas Tipper? Not sure where he was born. Also would like to find information on Robert's wife Salina born in Smethwick. I don't know her maiden name.
Thank you all for this information!

For Thomas Tipper's birthplace the easiest way is to find him on the 1851 census and hope his birthplace is given, and of course that he was still alive.
FreeBMD looks like it might be unlikely that he was still alive
TIPPER, Thomas 1840 March Deaths Radford Nottinghamshire
TIPPER, Thomas 1845 June Deaths Radford Nottinghamshire
in which case it is hard, because if the information on the 1841 census is correct all you know about his birthplace is that it was outside the county of Nottinghamshire. Proving which Thomas might be your Thomas from possibilities on the IGI (which by no means has a 100% coverage) could be difficult.
If Thomas was dead by the time of the 1851 census I would check the marriage entry in 1822 to see whether it was by banns or licence. From Thomas' possible age on the 1841 census it might be that he married underage. If he did so and admitted it, then on the banns or on the licence there should be some evidence of a relative giving their permission for the marriage. Nottinghamshire marriage licences, parish records including banns, will all be held by Nottinghamshire Record Office.
For Selina if Robert's marriage isn't on FreeBMD I would check 1837online and order the marriage, or a birth certificate of one of the children. With her maiden name you can try to find her and her family in Smethwick on the 1851 census.

I had a look at 1851 but couldn't immediately see them - very few Tipper entries on the index but I will double check when I get a minute.
This looks like Elizabeth in 1861. Apologies if you already have this

Marriage of Frederick Cope and Harriet Brambley Radford St Peter 23/03/1835.
I will also look for the Cope family in 1851 and try and tie them all together.
If this is Elizabeth and nieces it strengthens the case for her being the daughter of John and Julia/Juliet. Please bear with me on that one if no-one else helps out first!
Of course that also suggests Thomas was still alive in 1861....maybe ?
Not sure what to make of this one, but it's a possible?
