Can you please look up my ancestors in the 1851 census. George Adam Hardness and Maria Amelia Cook were living in Stratford, East London when she died in 1856. Maria was born in 1792. Her sister Emma Cook Cook was married to Pierre Cornelius Van Kempen in 1818 and they were also of Stratford, E. London. Any help you could give me on this family would be appreciated. Thank you. Jackie

I may be wrong but Stratford is part of West Ham for civil registration and may come under Essex for census purposes. Confusing isn't it.
Perhaps someone will confirm this.
Couldn't find them in Bethnal Green or Whitechapel

Thanks. I don't know London very well at all. I would appreciate confirmation of your statement and then I'll put it in Essex. That would make sense because the family is from Essex. Jackie

I have family living in Stratford at that time and I think Sylviaann is right. It is usually recorded as Stratford West Ham Essex.
Hope that helps
Good luck with tracing them!

Hello
Doing a bit of housekeeping and noticed this seemingly unresolved older request. Are you still looking for this information? If so it might be tricky to find so if you have any additional information which may help please let us know.
If I don't hear from you in a while I'll assume you're no longer looking or have found the information in the meantime and move it to 'Completed'.

Biker :)

Hi Biker: Unfortunately, I haven't found a solution to this family problem, nor have I any additional information. Thanks for your help. Regards, Jackie

Hi.
Stratford is part of West Ham, West Ham was part of Essex.
You will do better looking under "Essex".
Good Luck. ;)

I used ancestry.com and looked under all of the census records in England. I think the problem must be that they don't have all of the Middlesex records because other names I have looked for do not appear for the 1851 census either. Thanks again for thinking of me, Jackie

Hi Jackie.
I looked on on the LDS (family search) site and found "Maria Amelia Cook. born at St. Katherine's by the Tower, London".
She was christened on the 5th Feb 1793 at the age of 1 year.
Her Parents were Samuel Bradly Cook and Amelia.
Hope this helps...
Regards,
Fred. :)

Hi: Thanks for your help. That is the wrong one. I have an old journal that gives me information on her and those are not her parents. The LDS site is good information but not always accurate, definitly a place to get started. Thanks again, Jackie
