Been searching for a marriage for these two for years now and got nowhere so hoping a new pair of eyes may spot a entry somewhere.
George Coole born 1812 Bristol, parents George and Hannah Coole. Married to Hesther Osborne.
George and Hesther went on to have 6 daughters
Eliza 1844-1851
Hester 1846-1918
Emily 1847-1902
Mary Ann 1849-1851
Louisa 1850-1851
Eliza b 1854.
On the 1841 census George is living with his mother Hannah
So one would of thought he married between 1841- 1844????
The surname Coole does seem to change from Coole to Cole by 1851, easy to drop the "o" George's oldest brother John was baptised Coole but his other 3 siblings were baptised Cole.
Any help would be appreciated.

Does the name Osborne come from a child's birth certificate, and have you traced Hester pre-1844?
I can see a Hester Osborne, "30", in Bristol in 1841 with daughters Emma 15 and Louisa 13. She seems likely to be the Hester Crook who married William Osborne in Bristol in 1825.
-
Yes, the mother's name was on the two birth certificates I have, Eliza and Emily. Maybe she was a widow, the two daughters Emma and Louisa could well be married by 1844.
The birth certificates both spell the surname Coole.

A 'Osborne' Researcher years ago, said : 'Don't worry that the marriages were in Bristol. An awful lot of S. Glos people went to Bristol to marry or were living there as single people and working there at the time of their marriage.

My husband's late mother Ruth (nee OSBORNE) - her ancestors came from the Bristol area - 18th century.
In the past, I've been in contact with this website:
The Osborne Family of C18th Bristol Area (a very common name in the Bristol area)

The above website is very helpful (on Facebook/Ancestry etc)
Will look through my old notes

In 1841 there is a Hester Osbourne aged 30 Dressmaker b abt 1811 living Old Park Lane, St Michael Bristol with here daughters: Emma Osborne b 1826 and Louisa b 1828. These fit with the names you have, but this Hester is likely to be Hester CROOK who married William OSBOURNE in Philip and Jacob in 1825.
Emma Osborne dau of Hester and William baptised St Augustine 9 April 1826
Louisa Osbourne dau Hester and William baptised St Micheal 30 November 1828
However, there is a baptism in Bristol for a Hester Osbourne in Bristol in 1815:
Hester Osbourne dau of James and Ann baptised Philip and Jacob, Bristol 29.10.1815.
Can't find a James Osborne marriage to an Ann in Bristol, but I did find this:
I have found one likely marriage in 1811 Redruth Cornwall 25 April 1811
James Osborne married Ann Mitchell (widow) no ages given.
Grooms parish is noted as 'Sojourner' i.e a temporary resident. If he was a seaman, (which would certainly make him a Sojourner), he might have moved up to Bristol by the time Hester was baptised in 1815
I can find no Osbourne/Coole marriage in Bristol (although both names occur there)
(A George Cole married Hester STREET in 1825 but as she was a spinster she cannot be Hester Osborne)
Any chance that Hester Osborne who married George was in fact a widow when she hooked up with him, this would possibly make her Hester Crook by birth - while not noted on the Census as a widow in 1841, she is head of the household.
Finally, I wonder if Hester and George may have run away together as I have found these marriages in the Circencester District, so far it's the only connection I can make to Osbourne/Coole surnames:
Name Hester Osborne married William Jones
District Cirencester, Gloucestershire December 1840 Vol 11 Page 0349
Name George Coole married Elizabeth Knight or Jane Maysey
District Cirencester, Gloucestershire June 1841 Vol 11 Page 301
Found the family living in Cheese Lane Philip and Jacob in 1851 George is a Brass founder and his wife noted as Esther Cole born Philip and Jacob 1812. Can't seem to find them thereafter.

I've tried a wildcard search on FreeBMD for surname Osb* and first names Est* and Hest*, and haven't come up with anything.
Maybe they didn't actually marry? I've been looking for my 3xgreat-grandparents' marriage around a similar time, and despite trying every possible spelling, I can't find it. Yet they are listed as husband and wife on the census, and their son's birth certificate calls the mother "Hannah Moul formerly Fincham", implying they're married. I've pretty much given up hope, and assumed that either a marriage never took place or for some reason has escaped being registered with the GRO.
-
Thanks for looking, Claire, Gene and Capetown, Could well be they never married, another point maybe the marriage was never registered??

You might have to do a search of the Bristol PR's for the marriage.
-
Did you note that there is a James & Ann Osborne living next door to George Coole & his mother in 1841?
I also wondered about the John Hosborne living with the Cooles in 1841. Any chance that could be a different spelling for Osborne?
In 1861 Hester Cole 49 charwoman is living at 13 Narrow Plain, St P & St J, Clifton, Glo, with 3 of the daughters previously mentioned & 2 lodgers. She is described as a widow so I assume George Coole/Cole died between 1851 & 1861.
-
Yes, George died in 1856.
You could well be on the right track as I had found a christening on familysearch
Hester Osborne, Christening date 29 Oct 1815 St Philip and Jacob's Bristol. Father James Osborne, Mother Ann
Thanks

Estimates the number of entries that may be missing from the GRO index, and explains why!
None of this has helped me find the marriage of my ancestors Barnabas and Hannah... I've looked through all the parish registers for the local area, in case their entry somehow was missed from the GRO copy.... but no, they're still not there.
I'm inclined to believe that they never actually married, but described themselves as husband and wife on two censuses and for the births and christenings of several children.

Capetown, Cannot find the 1841 census entry on find my past. Do not subscribe to ancestry at present.
-
Found it looking under Mary Ann,thanks
-
If one or both parties had been married previously, they may not have been able to marry, or at least married later after the death of a former partner. My own great grandparents did this; 6 daughters between 1880 and 1901, but only married in 1915 after the death of the former husband.
-
Another possibility and the early marriage parish records give little information. Same as 1841 no mention if the ancestor was M,W or S.
