Thanks so much again.
One of my aunts did some family research years ago before the internet was in full swing and kind people like you were here to help. She trawled through graveyards and parish records. I was given some of the information she had managed to find only about three weeks ago and amongst it was William Pankhurst married to Martha King with birth years but no marriage date, so I think this is the right one.
I have William's death certificate (Burwash) and Edmund's marriage certificate (London). Would it be possible to find Edmund's birth date? I can't find him in the BMD registers, possibly because it was too early.
Gaie
Sorry, should I start a new thread for this?

hi there

According to my calculations, Edmund was born about mid 1837 - civil registration started with the Sept quarter (3rd quarter) of 1837 - so there is a possibility he could have a birth certificate.
If not, then you will not get a birth date unless it is written in the church register at the side of his baptismal date.
I go to the record office about every 6 weeks in Lewes to look up these kind of things - next one will be in September. So keep a look out for "Another visit to East Sussex Record Office" thread which will be posted after I come back from my holidays in mid August

Hi and welcome to Rootschat :)
Sorry for the delay in replying, I wasn't aware of your post.
Which son/daughter of Edmund's are you descended from?
I'll have a go at private messaging you, but you may have to make another reply in order for the system to work.
Kind regards
Gaie

Hi, no private message yet received? Edmund Pankhurst is my great great grandfather, his son Alfred is my great grandfather and I know a lot about him. I am in Crawley, Sussex.
