A possible for the marriage?
On the same page FreeBMD
Marriage
June 1/4 1842
George Nicholas
Sophia  Willis
registration district New Forest  vol 8 page 305

One of the children's birth certificates would give Sophia's maiden name.
The only Nickless marriage is this one with both names on the same page but whether they married each other and it is one of those pages with more than 2 couples on it.

Marriage Dec 1/4 1839
George Nickless
Sophia  Wilds
Reading  6/431

There is a tree on ancestry which shows that George was born/baptised 10/8/1817 Clatford (not Clapford), Hampshire, illeg. son of Elizabeth Nickoles and a John Pope!

Sophia was born at Vernham and the online tree has her as Sophia Stroud bp.22/9/1821 Vernham, Hampshire (familysearch shows 22/7/1821, dau. of Joseph Stroud and Mary Wooldridge.

Now it get's a bit complicated - there doesn't seem to be a marriage between a George Nickless and Sophia Stroud BUT a Sophia Stroud married a George Taylor (shown as son of William) on 6/11/1839 Kingsclere, Hampshire.  Witnesses surnames were Stroud and Woolridge which would concur with the above baptism.   So, was this the same Sophia - did she leave him soon after marriage and take up with George Nickless??

Who can say - as has been suggested, the birth certificate of one of the children will confirm whether she was Stroud or not.    If it was Stroud then as she was apparently married to someone else would mean that's why we can't find a marriage to George Nickless.

According to the 1851 census, George was born in (Upper) Clatford, Hampshire and his wife in Vernham (Dean).

At the moment, this is the only baptism that might be him:

George NICHOLAS, baptised 10 Aug 1817 at Woodcutt, natural son of Elizabeth Nicholas, spinster of Upper Clatford.

This would match his age given in 1851.

George Nicklas is shown in the same household with a Sophia in 1841 census, so possibly already married by then.

The marriage shown in the New Forest district is a fair way from their home turf.  I'm sceptical about that.

Added: seen the baptism of Sophia Stroud as well as a possible candidate - transcript says July.
