I am trying to find out what happened to William John Eve born 1855 in Whitechapel. He was the son of William Robert Eve and Elisabeth Drake.
He married Alice Parsons on 2nd August 1885 in St. Philips in Stepney. They had 2 children, Alice Elizabeth born 1887 and Thomas born 1890 both in Whitechapel.
I can't find any trace of his death. Alice is in the 1901 census as the wife of Alfred Reinsford, along with her daughter Alice and 3 Reinsford children, Florrie age 3, Beatrice age 1 and Hector age 3 months.
I can't find a marriage between Alice and Alfred Reinsford (sometimes transcribed as Ransford) either.
Any info that will get me past this brick wall will be gratefully received.

I wonder if this could be him in 1893?
William John Eve born abt 1856 Flour porter admitted to Mile End Old Town Workhouse 20th Sept 1893. That's about 2 miles from Whitechapel.

I wondered about that chap as well. I think (next page) on the admittance record it says "deemed insane"?
There's a Wiliam John EVE on the 1901 as a patient in the London Lunatic Asylum who's a Labourer in a flour mill-but says born Sheerness. I don't see a birth for anyone of that name in Kent around that time??

William John Eve was a flour carman on Alice Elizabeth's baptism in 1887; carman on Thomas' baptism in 1890.
-
An earlier son for the couple:
William George Eve, born 16 July 1886, baptised 8 August 1886 at St Philip, Stepney.
Parents: William John Eve, miller, and Alice, of 27 Devonshire St, Globe Rd.

There is a death for a William John Eve in Romford in 1903, age is out by 2 years. :-\
The asylum mentioned in 1901 census record is in Romford.

Likely deaths for the two sons:
William George Eve aged 3, Dec qtr 1889 Whitechapel
Thomas Eve aged 0, Jun qtr 1891 Whitechapel.

The flour connection and the combination of names looks promising.

I can't find a marriage between Alice and Alfred Reinsford (sometimes transcribed as Ransford) either.

It could well be, if we've found the right William John Eve, that she couldn't marry Alfred Reinsford as William, although in the Lunatic Asylum was still alive. She probably just took Alfred's name and was referred to as his wife.
