Hi all,
If anyone has any information regarding the Eighteen family of Reading, feel free to discuss here. I did do a forum search for the name and found a lone thread on them with regards to a First World War memorial, and indeed numerous Eighteens served in that conflict.
I'm mainly putting this here so something else shows up for anyone who searches for the family in the future, but obviously if anyone has any questions or information then please do let me know.
Thanks,

Hello James,
Are you looking for specific information or are you offering information you already have?
We would need more information if you are looking for more specific info.

Hi Jennifer,
No, I don't require any specific information right now. I've actually spent the last few months putting together my own family tree and getting in touch with various relatives, and - as far as I know! - I don't have any gaps in my current tree, but I could of course be wrong.
I mainly just wanted to start this thread because I couldn't find an existing one, and so I thought that perhaps in the future other people may try to find one too -- a kind of 'hub' for potential researchers & relatives, if you will.
For me to get more accurate information for my closer relatives I'd have to order some more certificates, but these are generally for great uncles & aunts who died very young.
In the near future I will probably expand my family tree to include my great-grandfather's siblings and their children, which will mean an exponential increase in people as there were lots of them, and doubtless lots of children too, but I've not decided on that yet.
It's certainly a unique surname, so chances are if there are any Eighteens on this forum then we are related somehow. :)

If you have a look at the Surnames Interests at the bottom of the page and do a search, you will see that a Rootschatter is researching the EIGHTEENS in Reading (the fishmongers).

Thank you very much, Harry. I have sent him a PM.

Hello,
I have only just signed up and am finding things difficult to navigate, being a newbie!
Hopefully I am messaging somebody about the Eighteen family of Reading, who were fishmongers? I have a family connection as my maternal grandfather, Reg, was an Eighteen of Reading. He married, moved to Surrey and continued his fishmonger trade around the Epsom area. He had two children; my mother, Betty, (named after an Eighteen uncle's wife that had moved to Canada before WWII), and her younger brother, John S Eighteen. I haven't seen my uncle John or my eldest cousins, his twin sons L and P, since I was eleven and they were twelve. However, mum is still alive and I am trying to find out where family are. If anyone has information? I know that my grandad was one of THIRTEEN Eighteen siblings from Reading, some of whom moved to the London, Ontario area of Canada. Also, happy to help if someone needs information from me. Linda :)
