Title: Sarah Barras - Cause of death
Post by: pckl on Friday 18 December 15 11:59 GMT (UK)
Hello all.

Received the death certificate of Sarah Barras, my 5x Great Grandmother, this morning. I can't quite make out the cause of death.

I've Googled, and the only thing I can find is Climacteric Disease, but I'm not so sure about that...

Would anyone be able to take a look?

Thanks, and Merry Christmas all.  :)

Climacteric Disease
This term has been applied to a sudden and general alteration of health, occurring at a certain period of life, and of uncertain duration.

Thank you very much, stanmapstone!

That definition certainly makes more sense. The only mentions I could find were about menopause - in both sexes, as is also mentioned on that webpage.

Merry Christmas  :)

In very old people -- climacteric

“General decline of the vital powers, at the age of senesence, without any evident cause -Natural decay ” Other sources give the alternate term “senile decay.” To put it in the language of modern  died of “natural causes” or old age, the body organs started a chain reaction of decline of giving up their functions and the body was naturally shutting down.
