I distinctly recall starting my Ancestry sub last year without any special offers etc. I've just checked my renewal information - it's due in 4 days - to find a whopping 25% increase in worldwide subs! Has anyone else noticed this? With inflation almost negative in this country I can't understand it.

Cancel your subscription and they will probably contact you within a few weeks (not guaranteed !) and offer you a new subscription at a lower rate. Alternatively give them a ring and see if you can negotiate a lower rate

Thanks David, have been taking a look and it seems I won't lose anything if I cancel. So I might just try it.

Worldwide annual sub increased from £155.40 to £179.99 in January which isn't a 25% increase. ;) If you paid less last year, you probably had a discounted offer as its been £155.40 for some years.

I paid the 179 figure last year (December). Well, you'd better sit down - it's now £224.99 !

Hi,
It is always worth giving them a ring to cancel unless they can offer a better price. I always do that and never pay the full amount for worldwide subscription - just checked and renewed Worldwide in July for £134-99. (that's £179-99 with a 25% discount) Give it a try. Good Luck ;) (The year before Worldwide for £116-55 ;D)
Merry Christmas
Sandra ;D

My renewal notice for Worldwide dated 27 November says £179.99.
However, since the new site was launched, I now get the option to upgrade the Worldwide Sub to All Access which includes the US sites Fold3.com and Newspapers.com. For most non-US subscribers, neither is of much use, although the newspapers site can be interesting (I recently subscribed on a discounted offer separately). The UK price for All Access is £224.99, I've just checked through the Upgrade option.
If that's what your renewal says, you need to phone them or, alternatively, cancel the renewal (has to be done at least two days in advance of the date) and then resubscribe after your subscription lapses (it will lapse the date due not the day you cancel) at the advertised price on the UK site. If you check the subscription rates when not logged in, the price is £179.99.
Added - they've had offers on over Christmas the last couple of years. 2014 was half price Premium and 2013 was Worldwide for price of Premium. Its possible, although obviously no guarantee, that there could be some offer this year, although whether for Worldwide is anybody's guess.

Hi
When my Ancestry World subscription comes up for renewal I cancel and wait to see what offers I get. I also check subscription rates through the various sites as exchange rate fluctuations can make a big difference. A quick check today of some annual rates (converted to British pounds) I have also ignored the All Access subscription for comparison purposes.
Ancestry UK - 179.99 GBP
Ancestry Canada - 145.15 GBP
Ancestry USA - 196.56 GBP (2 by 6 mth sub)
Ancestry Australia 215.79 GBP (143.82 GBP for first subscription)
Even though I live in Australia I subscribe through Ancestry UK as I got a 20% discount so it was about 70 GBP cheaper. In previous years I have saved far more than that.

Thanks Smud. That's probably what's happened. Strangely enough I've not had a renewal notice at all. I guess if I hadn't looked myself, I'd have been shocked at that amount coming through DD.
I'll have to ring them anyway to check exactly how much they are taking.

My sub came up for renewal at the end of October 2015. They sent me an email saying that my sub would not be more than when I signed up.
"Your membership will automatically renew 23 October 2015. At that time, you will be charged the same price as when you signed up, unless you started on an introductory or promotional price or if you were notified of a change to your renewal price".
Although I started two years ago on a special offer, my last years sub was at the going rate for October 2014. So I was shocked to find it had gone up, (just over 10%) despite the email they sent me.
I cancelled and have not had any new offers from them. As I'm discovering a lot of ancestors in Essex now I'm doing my husband's tree, I decided the money would be better spent on an annual sub to SEAX and some credits as and when needed to FindMyPast for the 1939 register (I have had annual sub to FindMyPast for many years and still think that's good value)

I did the same as Sandra this year, rang and said I was thinking of cancelling (I have previously bought FTM for the discount, but as we know, there wasn't a new version available this year). I was offered a 25% discount straight away.

Great news - always worth a try.

I've just checked my emails as I did receive one from ancestry offering 20% off worldwide, but that was on 2 Dec, my renewal was due 15 Nov! The very first time I have ever received such an email, in 12 years, so why not before? No use after the event is it?
A very Happy Christmas to you too Sandra. :)

Success! I had to mention to ancestry that I'd heard they'd been giving 25% discounts on renewal when people phoned them, but I did get the discount on my worldwide sub which is up the 28th. :)
Thanks to Sandra and msr, I'd not really have thought about trying if I'd not known about your success. ;D
So its definitely worth a free phonecall to try.
