I was just wondering if any Military Specialists on Rootschat can spot any clues from this picture. Any help would be great.. He is my grandfather's cousin Robin born 1919 - 2001.. Family legend said he was once in the SAS. I know he lived in France at some point. Military History is not a strong subject for me. Can anyone give me any info from prehaps the picture etc. Thank You

My guess based on the colour of his shirt, is that this photo was taken when he was in the Middle East, probably Egypt, North Africa.

Thank You ScouseBoy... Does his beret symbolize any particular Regiment etc do you know?.
-
A Scottish Regiment, but I can't tell which one.

Thank You Jebber... That's thrown it out there :).. Other than ordering his Army Service records and waiting for over a year. I don't think I'll find out much more about him any time soon. I have his family history info, his Will etc..

Hi, I could well be a million miles away ::)
Try a search for "Number 11 Scottish Commando" there are a lot of images which look a very close match.
Regards
Frank.

He has a 'Hackle' (usually feathers) at the rear of his beret .......... I would suggest that you google for this to see what turns up.

Hello everyone.
My dad was in the Black Watch and he has a bonnet like the one in the picture and it has a red hackle on it to.
He was in Palestine so wore the khaki shirt. So may be something to think about.

I would agree with Black Watch.
