Hi
I received a death certificate of I am hoping my GG Grandfather. It is saying on the certificate Dead body found Eighth of December 1919 River Medway, Rochester. That there was an Inquest held on 10 of December 1919 by Reguiald Jup-bascall Sledman (it was hard to read the handwriting). The person Owen Knight age 71 address of 115 Market Street East Winnipeg Manitoba, Canada. cause of death Drowning there being no evidence to show how deceased got into the water.
I would like to find out how to get the inquest papers to see if any relatives were called. My GG Grandfather was an Owen Knight the age is correct and in 1909 he traveled to Manitoba, Canada to be with his son and one daughter. I cannot find any thing after 1909. His second daughter lives in Kent county latter on in her life I don't know when she moved there.
Any help would be great.

The coroners name was probably Reginald John Mascall Stedman who was coroner for Rochester.

Thank you Dave.
I just confirmed that that was my GG Grandfather. I just need to get information on how to get the inquest from the coroner.
Thanks again.

Hi,
Survival of Coroner's files varies but I suggest you contact Medway archives giving them the date of the Inquest, name of the deceased and the name of the Coroner.

There is a "contact us" link on the left hand side.

I came across a coroners report on an ancestor of my Husband. Somebody on this site recommended getting in touch with the local library in the area for newspaper reports at that time. Spot on info and relatives were named. Never forget the local papers can spring up facts too. Hope you got answers.
