Title: William Knight
Post by: Indaloman on Sunday 22 November 15 16:38 GMT (UK)
I have tried before but without any luck.
My 3XGGfather William Knight married Racheal Chrisdee 12 October 1807 at Holy Trinity Church, Millbrook, Southampton. This is the only proven fact I have on them. 1841 census shows them living in Millbrook and William is a Last Maker, he is 65 she 55 years old. I can not find their births or deaths. There was a William baptised at St Faith's Havant, but this proved not to be my man. I live abroad so cannot get to Winchester Records Office until latr next June. Any help would be appreciated.

Possible death in Sep 1844 for William - Southampton right district for St Mary where the 1841 parish was.

One death for Rachel and one for Rachael which is more likely as you spelled it differently to the norm.

Rachael death Dec 1846 Southampton.

Did you check out either death mentioned on the previous thread to see if they were yours?

I seem to remember having a stab at this one after your previous post, but not found anything concrete.  Since Knight is such a common name  :-\ I thought I would look at Rachel and her origins to see if there might be clues there.

There is only one Crisdee baptsism in Havant.  I can't find a Crisdee marriage for William & Rachel (Rachel's parents) or any burials for the couple  :(

Have you looked at any marriages of the children of William & Rachel Knight to see if William is noted as deceased or note?  I realise it's no guarantee but it might help.

Any wills?  Was William apprenticed to anyone?

Nell

Oh well done  :) - I was still working on the 'i' sound but with 't' substituted for 'd' and working through those possibilities.

Thanks to all for the input
Millipede: I will chase this one up, thanks
SWar: Was my first port of call but thanks.
Little Nell I too found this entry at St Faith's but it is spelt Crisdell, I only noticed the difference 2 days ago. I also found William Knight (Oh Joy) at St Faith's, Somebody sent me a copy of his Will and that of his father. They were very wealthy landowners and in todays terms nearly millionaires. My poor William was a last maker. I made a search a couple of days ago at St Faith's and could not bright Racheal up at all, I only found her after searching Chris.

Again thanks to you all for you time and efforts Rootschats is a great fraternity

SWar #2 provides an interesting Link. Under Chawton, I noticed some Knight entries from Chawton (Alton). Jane Austen is not there as she was buried in Winchester Cathedral.
