Title: Kurrent/Czech/Bohemian birth records
Post by: MattH on Wednesday 18 November 15 16:16 GMT (UK)
Hello,
I am in need of help deciphering some names from old Bohemian vital records. I know the following:
- Name: Josefa Rychly
- Father: Frantisek Rychly
- Mother: Anna Titl (or Titlova)
- Born: 18 December 1842, Dobriv, Rokycany District

In the baptismal record, is also gives the names of Josefa's grandparents. I'm having a tough time deciphering those names. I also found a couple of siblings, but I'm having just as much trouble reading those clearly enough. Thanks in advance for the help!

Here are the links to use to see the records. Note that you can zoom in and out and move the image about if needed:

Well I've had a go and this is what I think they say:-

Josefa - Qa?jifla?j

Brother - Frantisch

Unknown sister - Zufisr

Don't know if any of that makes sense!

Thanks for giving it a go! I know it's terribly hard to read! And, if you're not familiar with Czech names, it can be even harder. The brother's name is actually Frantisek, a traditional Czech name, so you were very close. I was able to find the marriage of Josefa's parents. Here's the link:

Again, I'm trying to find her grandparents' names, which will be located somewhere in the area around the background information of the father/groom and mother/bride.
I'll keep trying to tackle it as well, but if inspiration should hit you, feel free to share it here!

If you still have difficulty with the marriage record, there are some very helpful people on the rootsweb message boards. Recently I had to have help deciphering some Czech records and posted them on here. Received an answer the next day!
