I have a birth certificate for a birth registered in Q4 1880, West Derby District:
Elizabeth PARRY, d.o.b. 05 October 1880
Parents: John PARRY and his wife Margaret (nee HARRISON)
Father's occupation: Railway Engine Driver
Address: 20 Wilton Grove
The father's name and occupation is correct as per his great granddaughter's information - she always referred to him as "Nanny's Dad was John Parry, the engine driver. :-)
I now have the scan from the 1939 National Identity Register which agrees with the d.o.b. on the birth cert., so I am sure its the right certificate.
I looked for a baptism and found a 'highly possible'
St Anne, Stanley Nov 21 1880
Elizabeth PARRY,
Parents: John and Margaret PARRY
Father's occupation: Engine Driver
okay so far, but the following differ from the birth cert info:
there is a d.o.b. in the margin of the baptism register and that says 22 Oct
the address is Rathbone Road
What I am wondering about:
On a modern day map (Google Maps) Wilton Grove appears to be just behind Rathbone Road, perhaps that was near enough for whoever wrote in the baptism register?
I am not quite so bothered about the discrepancy in d.o.b. Errors did occur in the registers and I have searched the BMD Index and can only see 2 Elizabeth Parry births in Q4 1880 in West Derby District.
There is another baptism at Liverpool St Peter in 1881 for an Elizabeth Parry born Nov 1880 and her parents are Thomas (a tobacco spinner) and Mary PARRY, so she is likely/possible to be the other child in the BMD Index.
I'd be interested in opinions, is there anything else I can cross check to see if this baptism is the one I am looking for? Would you accept the discrepancies and, on balance, accept that its the right baptism record? Or I am just clutching at a passing straw here?
Or would you (as I am considering) apply to get your husband retrospectively adopted by an easier family to trace ? :-)
Thanks

In Gore's Directory of Liverpool & Birkenhead, 1900. [Part 1: Street List & Street Directory] Wilton Grove is listed under Rathbone Road.

Thank you Stan!
I 'had' tried earlier directories, nearer to 1880, but couldn't find Wilton Grove and didn't think of going as far ahead as 1900 to look. That 'does' lend weight to the possibility that Rathbone Road was near enough for whoever entered it in the baptism register. I must try harder next time :-)
I'm getting nearer to including it with her records, but will need to put in a caveat that its 'highly likely' but not writ in stone because of the discrepancies.
Your help, as ever, is much appreciated.

I think it is the right baptism. It might just be an error with the wrong date being entered. The birth date in the baptism is later than the birth date on the birth certificate so this is not one of those incidences were an incorrect date of birth has been given to the registrar of births to avoid a fine. Had it been the other way round it might have explained the different date. A mistake is therefore most likely in this instance.

Thanks Blue, I appreciate your time and opinion.
I have now included the baptism with Elizabeth's documents, though did put in a caveat that there is a discrepancy with the birth date.
After all this time I am never going to be 100% sure (am I ever?) but it is a 'definite, highly possible' and sometimes that is as near as we get :-)
Now, I just have a John Wilson to pin down a birth/baptism for and life will be good - till the next problem ancestor :-)

Wilton Grove was a small cul-de-sac off Rathbone Rd with no connection through to Alexandra Rd at that time.

There was no road through to Alexandra Rd upto at least 1963-67 see the map at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/339035/390526/13/100765 after which Wilton Grove was rebuilt. See https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.4079838,-2.9182956,144m/data=!3m1!1e3

thanks deryckjohn that really helps to give weight to the theory that Rathbone Road was 'near enough' for the baptism record.
