I have a birth certificate registered in 1954 as Birmingham/Deritend. The place of birth is recorded 9 Church Rd UD, father is the the informant and is living in Lozells Rd, Birmingham 19. I was told the location was in Edgbaston, but that does not tally with the registration district.
I think the address may have been some sort of nursing home, it's a little perplexing and idea which Church Rd it might be?

Lozells Rd is in Handsworth.
Not very far northwards is a Church Hill Rd -- could that be it?

The Registration Sub-District of Deritend comprised of Aston, Birmingham (part), Bordesley, Birmingham (part) and Small Heath, Birmingham (part).
There is a Church Road in Aston which is off Thimble Mill Lane/Lichfield Road close to Aston Train Station. This is just over one mile from Lozells.
Interestingly looking at the area of Deritend itself I could not see anywhere named as a 'Road'. Most were called Street, there were some Lanes, Passages and Rows with others unnamed, e.g. Cheapside, Digbeth, but, I could not see a Road.
I have looked for Church Road in Bordesley and Small Heath, but, could not see one.

Deritend is on the South side of B'ham squeezed between Digbeth & Bordesley. Lozells Rd. is on the North side & Edgbaston on the West.
In the 50's it was heavily industrialized with just a few clusters of houses due to be demolished.
I've looked on all of my old maps & it's not there.
The nearest Church was St. Andrew's Bordesley was is also no longer there.
The Electoral Rolls show a Church Terrace & a Church Grove in Deritend but no Church Road. Both are on St. Andrew's Rd.
This is a map of Deritend c.1900 which shows St. Andrew's Rd. with 3 unnamed roads off.
I can only assume it's one of these although a Grove or Terrace wouldn't be a through Rd. like these.

The roads marked red are from left to right Sarah Street, Gray Street and Ada Road.

No longer so perplexed, had a thought to check the telephone directory. I found it under Nursing Homes.
Homeleigh, 9 Church Rd, Birmingham 15 EDGbaston 2991
Why on earth was it registered as Deritend?
