Title: Lancashire Fusiliers
Post by: raewyngillian on Tuesday 20 July 04 01:24 BST (UK)
Hi All,

Is there anyone who has access to, or can visit the Lancashire Fusiliers Museum???  I live in Brisbane, Australia and need to find out any information about the following -
Corporal Charles Jayes, Reg No's 17839, 371734, 708360.
He also re-inlisted in the Labour Corp.

He received the following medals -
Victory, British, 15 Star

I desperately need to find out details of his wife and any children which may be noted on his records.

many thanks
Gillie  :-* :-*

Title: Lanc Fusiliers Museum Email Address
Post by: raewyngillian on Thursday 22 July 04 00:23 BST (UK)
Hi there,

Is there a person living close to the Museum who would kindly phone them on this phone number taken from their web site - 0161 764 2208   and ask them for their email address???

I have sent THREE emails to 3 different email address I have obtained off the internet and every address bounces back to me saying it cant be located...and yes, I have clicked on the email address bar shown on their web site.

I would be very grateful if soneone could take the time to just phone them and tell them that their address does not work and to find out what the correct address should be.  Failing that could they ask the musuem to email me on tractortwo@hotmail.com so that I then have their address on file.

Many thanks
Gillie, Australia :-*

ha ha I bet they woundered what was happening as I phoned today too !! Oh well we got there eventually. ;)

The lady who looks after e-mail enquiries is called Heather Wilson who will be away untill Monday now.

They have lots of information of people who died from WW1 and WW2 more so than those who survived.  They have information on Medals and Service but all personnel information is now help in Kew London. It is also worth knowing that they keep very early records too if anyone is researching that far back.

Hi, I live very close to the museum - and I'm ashamed to say I never even knew it existed untill a couple of weeks ago.

Anyway, I'm planning a vist in the next couple of weeks - so if anyone needs anything let me know - I'm unsure if they will let me take photos but I'll ask.

Cheers

Fiona

Stanley Leslie Moffatt died of his wounds 13th August 1916
He is buried at  at Peronne Road Cemetery, Maricourt.
A can get a copy of his grave photo for £3 from this site

http://www.twgpp.org/information.php?id=2829471
There is also a grave for him in Eccles (Peel Green) Cemetery

http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=311220

He first enlisted in the Manchester regiment ( Manchester Regiment 6532 ) and later transfered to the Lancashire fusiliers ( Temporary Second Lieutenant)which is shown on his medal card index.
You can get a copy of this card for £2 from the national archives

http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/documentsonline/details-result.asp?Edoc_Id=4272316&queryType=1&resultcount=1

It shows his mothers address on the card.
His brother Cecil Henry Moffatt also died of his wounds and was also served in the Lancashire fusiliers. Again if you do not have access to ancestry site, you can get a copy of his medal card index from the national archives.

http://www.cwgc.org/search/casualty_details.aspx?casualty=67033

If you email this kind man, he should have a photo of this mans grave stone.
