Post by: WexDor on Sunday 15 November 15 20:22 GMT (UK)
My great uncle (RAMC-Egypt) was awarded the Military Medal in WW1 and was mentioned in Despatches.....what does this medal look like and would this have been awarded for bravery :)

Many thanks!

The "Mentioned in Dispatches" part would have been recognised by a bronze oak leaf spray on the ribbon of the Victory Medal. There is some more information about the MiD here at http://www.greatwar.co.uk/medals/ww1-gallantry-awards.htm

The best way to confirm the MM is to search the London Gazette archive using his surname and number. They are in long lists on the Gazette but 'Military Medal' is only mentioned at the beginning of the list.
