Title: Spilsby Workhouse death
Post by: george165 on Saturday 14 November 15 23:56 GMT (UK)
Hi all
Could someone tell me the age of a person who died at the Spilsby Workhouse?  The person I am after is George Taylor born around 1825 at Scremby.  The date of burial I have is 2/10/1889 but there is no age noted. His abode was Scremby.
Thanking you
george165

Hi CaroleW
Thank you for your information.  It looks like this could be him.  The dates are
a few years out but there are not too many George Taylor's from Scremby.

However, the 1881 census has two, one born c1812 and t'other c1828.  :-\

As the younger one was far away from Spilsby (Barrow on Humber) in 1881 and 1891, you need to be careful!

I suspect the latter one may have died 1896 aged 66

The dates are more than a few years out.  If he was b 1825 he would have been around 64/65 if he died in 1889

Far more likely that the 1889 death is the one born 1812 mentioned in Geoff's reply

Hi Geoff-E
I think the person who died in 1889 must be the one that I am after.  His abode was Scremby.  I have him marrying in Sep 1847 Mary Sylvester.
George 1861 married a lodger      Mary married with a son
George 1871 unmarried lodger     Mary widow with a son
George 1881 married lodger         Mary married living with her Mother
The George at Barrow on Humber in 1881 was a widow with 3 children one born in 1863 at Barrow on Humber.  His wife was an Emily at the christening of Eva Taylor Barrow on Humber.
Thanks

From my reply above

In 1851 - birthyear is 1814
In 1861 - birthyear 1821
In 1871 - birthyear 1810
In 1881 - birthyear 1812

born around 1825 at Scremby

None of the census entries support an 1825 birthyear.  If we had been given the above info it could have saved a lot of confusion re: age at death
