Title: Family Tree Maker 2006: Changing from 'read only' to 'edit'
Post by: Shirles on Monday 09 November 15 14:21 GMT (UK)
Hello Members
I have a very old version of Family Tree Maker 2006. One of my trees which I need to add and edit says it is 'read only'.  How can I change this please?

Best wishes Shirley

Hi Shirley,
This sounds as though it might be a more general problem than just an FTM thing.

Try the following to see if it is. Find your file in your file system with Windows Explorer (probably an .FTW file?). Right click on it and choose Properties from the drop-down. In the window that appears, is the Read Only tickbox ticked? If so untick it and click on Apply and or OK.

I hope this will work but apologise if I haven't understood the problem correctly.

Hi Alan

Many thanks for your advice ~ it worked ~ easy when you know how.  Would you happen to know how I 'edit/add on' to my Research Interests on Rootschat or should I make it a separate topic.

Thank you once again.
Best wishes Shirley

Hi Shirley,

I'm glad that helped. I think it should be a separate topic really.

Scroll down to the bottom of any RootsChat page, and you will find (under Your Tools) Surname Interests.

Click on that to take you to the Surnames Interest Table.

QuickSearch, then an initial letter will take you a list ing of surnames with that letter.
Clicking on a name shows you which RootsChatters are interested in that name.

You can also add your own!
