Hello, and thank you in advance for any assistance you may be able to offer.
For a very long while now a few cousins and I have been trying to trace back farther then our 5th great grandmother Ann Brinkworth. According to marriage/census records she was born about 1789 Stanley, Gloucestershire, England. She married Thomas Carter 20 Feb 1810 in Leonard Stanley, Gloucestershire, England. We believe she passed in the first quarter of 1857.
Try as we might, we can't seem to find a birth record that matches. Any advice on maybe where we could look, would be appreciated. We've hit ancestry, family search and a few Gloucestershire databases with no luck.
Thanks!

Had a quick look at the Gloucestershire Marriage Index CD from 1800 for Leonard Stanley and there is just your Ann BRINKWORTH marrying Thomas CARTER of Arlingham - 1810 by Banns.
The Gloucestershire Burial Index CD - does have 3 BRINKWORTH burials at Leonard Stanley and these could well be ??? Ann's parents
Mary BRINKWORTH - 11 August 1816 aged 60
Richard BRINKWORTH - 16 May 1821 aged 76
Mary BRINKWORTH - 25 February 1827 aged 85 c 1745 **

The Leonard Stanley Marriages 1570-1812 are on line
?
Thomas BRINKET m Ann HEDGES - 1 October 1738
Thomas BRINKET m Susanna WRIGHT - 10 February 1759
Richard BLINKWORTH m Mary SMITH - 26 December 1784
(looking at the children of Thomas & Ann CARTER on the baptism index - the family appear to be Weavers) and these families did move about a bit.
Two BRINKET(T) burials at Horsley
Ann - 26 October 1828 aged 74
Sarah - 13 January 1828 aged 8

Thank you all for you speedy replies.
Yes we did consider Ann being from a neighboring perish, though all records say Stanley. Even snooping around we couldn't find an Ann that fit.
I have Isaac & Mary and Richard & Mary as possibilities but I haven't been able to find an exact connection. The only Richard & Mary I could track down with a daughter Ann had her born in 1757, 30 years to early.
In King's Stanley (about 12 minutes away today) there are an Aaron & Martha as well as a Jonathan & Hester having children about the same time Ann was born, but again no luck finding Ann.
There are a few Ann Brinkworths baptized in the early 1790s, but that is Laycock, Wiltshire (about 53 minutes away today) and I believe we can account for them marrying other people/dying before marriageable age.
Not that Ann and Thomas typically follow the naming patterns of the time, but their first daughter is Maria Mary, so I felt there was a good chance that Ann's mother was a Mary.
Thanks again!

When Ann** BRINKWORTH married Thomas CARTER in 1810 - where they any witnesses?
On the Gloucestershire Genealogical Database there does appear to be clusters of BRINKWORTH/BRINCKWORTH/BRINKETT who were non-conformists.
*** There is also a chance Ann could be been baptised Hannah - have seen this shortened a number of times of various trees
Assume Thomas & Ann(e) had their children baptised at Arlingham as Thomas CARTER was from Arlingham

Looking for witnesses at marriages gives family links....
Had a very quick look at the Forest of Dean records as you can cross-check for witnesses and
think is could prove very useful.
Marriage at Arlingham - 26 April 1842
Henry BRINKWORTH - full age, Widower, Farmer - residence: Arlingham
father: Jasper BRINKWORTH - occupation Waterman
married
Hannah DAVIS - full - Widow, occupation, Shopkeeper - residence: Arlingham
father: Samuel SHEARMAN - Shopkeeper (by Licence)
witnesses:
Thomas CARTER
Anne CARTER - marked
Forest of Dean records have a burial of
Henry BRINKWORTH 18 June 1846 aged 68 of Priding Arlingham c 1778
Diana BRINKWORTH - 25 June 1841 aged 62
Hannah BRINKWORTH - 10 March 1865 aged 62 - residence Priding Arlingham c1803 (FoD records)
Family Search does have a marriage of Henry BRINKWORTH marrying Diana LONGNEY 13 May 1802 - at St Nicholas Bristol. This does appear the family are up and down the Severn i.e. Watermen
1841 census Arlingham - Priding
Henry BRINKWORTH - 65-69
Dianah BRINKWORTH - 60-64
Gloucesteshire Burial Index has a
Jasper BRINKWORTH buried at Kings Stanley - 17 November 1824 of Fretherne aged 71 ***
Jasper BRINKWORTH buried at Fretherne - 12 November 1829 aged 10.
Gloucestershire Records Office holds the Will of Jasper BRINKWORTH 1825 (labourer) Fretherne - this should be on Ancestry
There are about 13 BRINKWORTH burials at Kings Stanley inc an Ann - 27 January 1824 aged 75 - residence: near Picked Elm.
Both the National Archives and Gloucestershire Records Office have,,,
7 February 1832
Memorandum of conviction of Henry BRINKWORTH of Arlingham for assaulting Maria POOLER of Arlingham.
You can use the Forest of Dean records Advance Search for witnesses
e.g.
When Thomas BRINKWORTH of Newnham married Elizabeth PRICE of Newnham at Newnham
18 April 1802 - Giles PORTER? and Henry BRINKWORTH signed.
Sarah BRINKWORTH married William BURNELL at Arlingham - 16 August 1826 - Henry BRINKWORTH and an Elizabeth BRINKWORTH signed.
Jasper & Elizabeth BRINKWORTH had two children christened at Westbury on Severn
Giles (family name) - 8 August 1791 and Joseph - 3 February 1793 - the CLDS have other children listed.
So Henry and Ann are either brother and sister - or cousins....

Thank you!
Looking through what you were able to find, I think Henry and Ann are probably brother and sister. We have a few Longney in our tree on Thomas' side, including a Walter Longney who was witness on their marriage banns. I didn't know that there was a witness cross reference database. This has been such a help and at least gives me some hopeful direction to start again.
Thanks again for all the assistance. Very appreciated.

Hopefully, you will find other 'gems' searching for witnesses
e.g.
Walter LONGNEY was a witness at Frampton on Severn in 1847 - when James POOLE married Sarah LONGNEY
London Gazette 1835
Thomas BRINKWORTH formerly of Arlingham, First Mariner, then Master Mariner and barge owner and late of Frampton on Severn Gloucester, Barge Owner, Coal & Hay Dealer.
Henry was married by Licence -( the Fod Licence records and Allegations only go up to 1837) - this Licence should give more info.
Lots of Longney/Brinkworth's listed inc
4 October 1800
William SIMS aged 23, Batchelor, Yeoman, residence: Longney
m
Mary LONGNEY aged 18, Spinster, residence: Frampton on Severn
father: Walter LONGNEY
by Licence
Marriage Allegation - to marry at Frampton on Severn
At the same time appeared personally before me Walter LONGNEY the lawful father of the said Mary LONGNEY who gave his consent to the marriage and signed.

Thank you Dott!
We were finally able to find a birth record and trace pretty far back. Apparently Brinkworth had quite the evolution including: Blinkworth, Brinkett, and Brinkel before once again being Brinkworth.
Ann is the daughter of Issac Brinkworth/Blinkworth/Brinkett and Mary Marton christened 9 Mar 1788. Oh the History!
