Dear Listers
I'm trying to find out more about the Roberts family in Cornwall.
Thanks to the help from other Rootschat members and OPCs I believe I have traced my family back to the 1650s.
It appears Mathew Roberts was born 23/3/1650 in Botus Fleming (baptised 25/3/1650) and married Joan Daddoe 4/9/1686 in St Austell.
I understand that the family then moved from Botus Fleming to St Austell areas & lived for several generations in Charlestown. Various occupations from tin streaming/mining, shipwrights, quay porters and then moved to the Devonport area.
Any ideas on how I can try to trace the Roberts line back further (Mathew's parents) and the reasons the family moved from Botus Fleming to St Austell?
Thank you
Drobbo

Morning
I am pleased to report that thanks to the excellent support from Angela Wood/OPC we believe that we have traced the ROBERT / ROBERTS line back further.
Angela's transcript of Mathew's baptism give his father as JOHN ROBERT who married JOAN BODYE in Botus Fleming on 9th October 1634. As he had a child named GEORGE, it is possible that John's father was GEORGE ROBERT & that he was baptised on 15 December 1605. If this is correct GEORGE ROBERT married GRACE BONSOLL in Botus Fleming on 31 January 1596.
We haven't been able to trace/understand why the family then moved to St Austell but understand that most moves at that time were generated by work.
I doubt I will be able to trace the ROBERT / ROBERTS line back further or find out more but am very grateful for the great support from Angela and all the other OPCs out there!
