My G2-GM was Ann CHARLTON (c1811-1905) from Galbally, Dromore, Co. Tyrone.
We believe (from her death certificate) that her parents were James CHARLTON and Ann WILSON.
Ann married John GRAHAM c1831 in Dromore, and the family came to Australia in 1861.
Ann had a nephew, James RITCHIE (1835-1922) who came from Dromore. His parents (according to his DC) were William RITCHIE (c1811-1893) and Matilda CHARLTON (c1813-1873). This family came to Australia in 1863.
The GRAHAM and RITCHIE families settled on farms only a couple of miles apart.
The circumstantial evidence suggests Ann and Matilda were sisters, thus making James RITCHIE Ann’s nephew.
However, Matilda’s DC gives her parents as James CHARLTON and Mary, surname unknown, rather than James and Ann (nee WILSON).
It is possible that (a) Ann (Wilson) CHARLTON died c1811, and James remarried, to Mary, or (b) one or both of the DCs has the parentage wrong.
So – does anyone have any information on a family from Dromore with James CHARLTON the father, and daughters Ann (b. c1811) and Matilda (b. c1813)?

Yes either is possible. What religion would they have been?

Check this link http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=2493279. These dates are more than likely the next generation back, with th Richie Family grave showing the same town land you ask for,Charlton is not a very common name in this parish. There were RC Charltons who show up in the local RC grave yard and the RC records for the parish http://cotyroneireland.com/menus/churchrecord.html hope some of these links are of help. http://www.askaboutireland.ie/griffith-valuation/index.xml?action=doNameSearch&Submit.x=59&Submit.y=11&Submit=Submit&familyname=Charlton&firstname=&baronyname=&countyname=TYRONE&unionname=&parishname=DROMORE

Hi John, I live in NSW Australia. My 3x great grandmother is Matilda Charlton (c1813-1873) and I'm descendent from her son Joseph Charlton Ritchie.
I'm afraid I cannot help you with family information in Dromone, I'm still looking myself, but I do have a picture of Matilda's grave at Berry NSW which I visited if you are interested. Regards, Lisa
