Title: Fraser, The Neuk, Rutherglen
Post by: Findmyfamily9999 on Wednesday 28 October 15 20:36 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find out more about the Fraser family that lived at The Neuk, Rutherglen.  James Fraser 1859-1937.  He was a builder, company name Jas. Fraser & co, 6 Union Street.  I have certificates and census information.  I am looking for any info or images anyone has about the family, the house or the business.

Thanks fo any help.

Do you have the names of adjacent properties from the census records? It may help locate The Neuk.

The census tells me it is on stonelaw avenue but this doesn't seem to exist in Rutherglen!!  Also not sure how to search the census for addresses,  so any help with that would be appreciated.

Stonelaw Avenue now seems to be Rodger Drive -

Think that Stonelaw Avenue is actually Crosshill Drive. I used to live in that area and the side by side map also shows this.

Thank you.  Do you remember the house? Or the Fraser family?

Sorry, I don't remember the house. I have checked my family tree (Fraser) and we are not connected nor do I know of any Fraser people who lived in the area. Sorry I cannot help with that either. Good luck in your search.

Cheers EV for that fabulous split screen map. I can pinpoint all the old farms ancestors worked on which are now long gone around East Kilbride. Fantastic.

Hi,

If you are still interested in "The Neuk", I can provide a couple of long distance images of the property dating from around 1900.

David Abercrombie, Rutherglen.

Both of the above images show Stonelaw Avenue in the distance from the north.  "The Neuk" is on the far right in both images.  In around 1905 Rodger Drive was laid out parallel and to the north of Stonelaw Avenue and around that time the latter was renamed as Crosshill Drive.  The houses on Stonelaw Avenue can be seen on the map below.

FYI  My interest in this is that my wife lived for a while in "Fernbank"  occupied in 1905 by John Boag. It is now 19 Crosshill Drive. "The Neuk" is now 29 Crosshill Dr.

Hi that is interesting, di your wife know the Fraser family?  Is she a boag?  I live in Devon now but my next door neighbour here is Scottish and her maiden name was Boag!

My wife lived in Crosshill Drive from the late 1960s until 1972.  So, she did not know the Frasers.
