my family are from Ayr and our family name is Murphy my grandma who was Georgina and my grandad was micheal my dad also micheal and I believe that Walter mc Gowan was my dads cousin so I'm thinking that my gran was related to the mc Gowans

Sorry but we need details- such as dates.

I could suggest checking for Walter McGowan, etc. in the 1911 Scottish census but there's no way of knowing from your post if Walter might have been born before or after 1911.

If he was born in Scotland you can check for a birth registration on Scotland's People website (pay per view).

his father was Thomas he also was a boxer going under the name of joe gans Walter was born 13 October 1942 Hamilton South Lanarkshire will try and get more info thank you

We aren't allowed to post details of living people and online searches indicate this person is still living (and from the date of birth possibly father also still living).

Have you tried contacting him to see if he knows of a connection?

sorry I didnt mean to offend anyone I didn't realise as I no longer have contact with my family in Scotland as they have passed I'm just looking into my tree and found out this information as I have not been in contact with anyone as I left Scotland when I was six And have not been back since my father passed

One 'trick' I've used to good effect is by searching social media sites, ie Facebook etc. I've recently made contact with three lost relies in different parts of the globe. Good luck.
